Sometimes she is busy in the pantry; more often than not you see her shuttling between offices delivering or picking up letters or documents. But there is probably something you don’t know about her — she had an even greater mission which took her three years to accomplish. That mission was to prepare healthy soups in her spare time for her precious daughter then studying at the HKIEd.
Her name is Grace and she has worked at the Tai Po Campus since 1994 when the Institute first moved in. No one could have predicted that Maggie, Grace’s second daughter, who has always loved drawing and reading, would become an HKIEd student in the Department of English seven years ago.
“I was so delighted when I knew she was accepted by the Institute because we could see each other on the campus most days and nights. She lived at one of the student hostels and I cooked soup for her from time to time. Sometimes, we would also have lunch together on campus. Because we saw each other so often, many of her classmates knew me too. ” Grace tells her story with a large smile and boundless enthusiasm, while showing us a pile of photos. The pride she takes in her daughter is more than words can tell.
