Dressed in a well-pressed uniform and with the HKIEd tie around his neck, Ah Lun has been dubbed the “royal” chauffeur, in view of his work for HKIEd’s successive Presidents since 1994.

In the past 15 years, Ah Lun has spent countless days “driving in and driving out” of the Institute:

Professor Leung Chi-keung — “That was my first time as chauffeur for the President. I can vividly remember my nervousness. I was trembling with fear and you should have seen the sweat on my palms!”

Professor Ruth Hayhoe — “Although she is from Canada, Professor Hayhoe speaks fluent Cantonese and she has a really pleasant and friendly personality. She even invited me home for dinner one Christmas.”

Professor Paul Morris — “My English isn’t very good so I often had to communicate with Professor Morris using body language. I also paid close attention to what he said. Carefully listening to his pronunciation, I was soon able to memorise the names of the places he visited frequently.”

Professor Anthony Cheung — “Professor Cheung has a tight schedule, attending numerous meetings and ceremonies. My job is therefore to time each journey accurately and respond quickly to deal with the actual traffic situation. Flexibility is the key!”
