“The Investments”: Raymond has been responsible for the HKIEd’s “books” and Treasury investments since 2004. Financial market trends and foreign exchange or oil price fluctuations have all therefore become Raymond’s major concerns. “Before we make any investment decisions, we first examine whether the ‘risks’ involved are within our limits of tolerance. Only then will we begin to take a look at the ‘returns’ and see whether they are on par with reasonable market levels.” Raymond explains.

“The Risks”: Four years ago, Raymond gave up a well-paid job at the Canadian Federal Government together with his stable life to return to Hong Kong. This move was also carried out only after careful consideration in line with his “risk management” theories. “The Canadian Government strongly encourages its management staff to work in different countries for three to five years, to enrich and enhance their working experience. I took a five-year no-paid leave period myself, when I left Canada back then,” continues Raymond.

“The Returns”: Soon after Raymond set foot in Hong Kong, he met his current girlfriend. He then decided to give up his “golden rice bowl” (solid and secure job) in Canada and really focus on settling down in Hong Kong. “Meeting my girlfriend here has led me to a new phase in my life, and this was simply too good a fate for me to brush aside...” Raymond admits.
