Shirley graduated from the Northcote College of Education in 1985. Twenty years later, she returned to the HKIEd to become principal of the HKIEd Jockey Club Primary School.

“I hope our school projects an image of energy, vitality and creativity, and that we are seen as advancing with the times. All our graduates are optimistic, confident and highly adaptable students.” Shirley said.

The Primary School’s most recent graduation ceremony coincided with its sixth anniversary. The ceremony on this occasion held very special meaning for everyone, as it was the first graduation in the school, where the graduates had come all the way through from primary one to primary six.
“While the graduates were singing In Praise of Teachers, a video, documenting how the children have grown up during this time, was shown simultaneously on stage. Now in primary six, the children look so different from what they used to be like when they were in primary one...” Shirley recalls.

Parting was no small sorrow. The students were not the only ones crying. Their teachers, Shirley and the school supervisor were all on the brink of tears.
