Everybody knows 999 is the number to dial for emergencies. The community on our Tai Po Campus, however, can call the HKIEd Health Centre direct should there be any medical emergency. Those who are unable to get to the clinic in person can even ask the campus doctor and nurse to make a
private visit. In such situations, they then bring along their emergency medical kits.
Every year, Dr Matthew Kwa responds to a number of private calls, but these emergency calls pose him no problem at all. Before he became the house doctor at the HKIEd Health Centre in 1998, Dr Kwa was the Chief of Service Consultant in the Accident and Emergency Department
of a major hospital.
Those with a “discerning eye for detail” will notice that Dr Kwa keeps a pair of sports shoes in his office. “Of course, I normally wear leather shoes. But the Taipo campus is really huge and I can run faster with my sports shoes in case of an emergency.” Dr Kwa explains, displaying his experience in dealing with such situations.
