Normally, after you install MS Windows 10/7, it will automatically activate the license via our KMS license server. If you found that the MS Windows cannot activate automatically, please follow the steps below to activate manually.
Procedures: (Screen capture base on Windows 10 - Build version 1803)
- Connect to the campus network. If you are outside the campus network, please connect with VPN first.
- Launch "Command prompt" by clicking the 'Search' button at the bottom. Then type 'cmd' in the text box provided. You need to have administrator permission. To do so, right click the 'common prompt' and choose Run As Administrator.
- Firstly, we need to tell windows which is the KMS license server we are going to communicate:
- slmgr /skms kms.eduhk.hk

- Then we can activate the Windows

You need to activate Windows every 180 days; otherwise the system will fall back to trial mode and it will be locked after 30 days. To extend the activation period for another 180 days, you simply make VPN connection to the campus network, and extension will be done automatically. If you want to check when the license period expires, you can run the following command:
