Notes and recommendations
- The default quota for each user is 100GB.
- For copyrighted materials, users should ensure that they have obtained relevant permission from the copyright owner before publishing the content.
- The quality of video depends on bit rate but it affects the video size. For instance, a one-hour video file at a bit rate of 3 Mbps (1920 x 1080 pixels) is about 1.3 GB in file size.
- Users are recommended to use MP4 (H.264) video format. A MP4 file is compatible with Windows, macOS and most Android and iOS devices.
- For all the supported file types, please see Learn About Supported Media File Types for Uploading.
- Panopto Cloud supports a bit rate of 2.5 Mbps. Any bit rate or resolution higher than 2.5 Mbps will be downscaled.
- Most camcorders support MP4 (H.264) video format. You can download software such as Any Video Converter Freeware to convert the file format.
- To prepare screencasts, users can use OBS Studio (Windows, MacOS, Linux) or Quicktime (MacOS).
- To produce professional looking photos and videos in a self-service mode, users can use OCIO’s Photo and Video Studio.
- To edit and encode videos, users can use the video editing stations at the Learning Commons (near the network printers).
