CHL launched the EdD specialisation in Language Education (Chinese) in 2018/19.
In 2018/19, the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) has successfully launched the new EdD specialisation in Language Education (Chinese), and so far 14 students have been enroled in the specialisation.
Various academic activities were organised by CHL to enhance internationalisation and to promote the image of CHL as a world-wide leader in the field of Chinese education. CHL has organised: (i) The 3rd International Conference on Chinese Language Education; (ii) The 4th International Conference on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language; (iii) Workshop on Chinese Translation of Buddhist Scriptures and Chinese Pronouns; and (iv) Advanced Workshop on IB Concepts and TCSL. The 5th issue of International Journal of Chinese Language Education (IJCLE), co-founded with Columbia University and Chung Hwa Book Co. (H.K.) Ltd. and the 3rd monograph of the department tilted《中國語文教學新探》were published in June 2019.
Renowned scholars from overseas were invited to visit the department to deliver courses or seminars, for instance, Professor Liu Lening from the Columbia University and Professor Chew Cheng Hai from the National University of Singapore. CHL also organised the “Linguistics Series Lecture” throughout the year and invited distinguished linguists, such as Professor Wang Feng from the Peking University to give talks to colleagues and students. In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding with the Peking University on academic staff exchange was signed in January 2019.
