Dean’s International Research Collaboration Award

Objectives:

  1. To foster in-depth research collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and expertise with overseas/non-local partners (including mainland/GBA partners);
  2. To strengthen the networking with overseas/non-local universities;
  3. To raise the professional profile and reputation of academic staff in the Faculty; and
  4. To provide an opportunity for academic staff to engage in research activities in a different cultural and academic environment.

 

Provision of the Award:

 
  1. The Award will provide the FHM academic staff with the opportunity to spend up to two weeks (or 13 nights) visiting their collaboration partner at an overseas/non-local reputable university/organisation.
  2. Reciprocally, the Award will also provide that overseas/non-local partner with the opportunity to spend up to two weeks visiting FHM.
  3. The academic staff and their overseas/non-local partner will be expected to engage in planned research activities during their exchange period.
  4. The Award will provide financial support to cover travel and accommodation expenses of the FHM academic staff involved and their overseas/non-local partner during the exchange period. A per diem allowance for meals and other incidental expenses will also be provided, but only to the FHM staff members (following the FO guidelines).
  5. The FHM academic staff will be expected to submit an initial report within one month after the completion date of the academic exchange and research collaboration programme, summarising their gained experiences/inspiration as well as significant outcomes and expected deliverables for future collaboration after the bilateral exchange, and a follow-up report six months after the completion date of the academic exchange and research collaboration programme, providing an update of the concrete deliverables generated by the exchange programme based on the initial report (e.g. joint publications, joint projects, etc.), and reporting on future research collaboration plans.

 

Eligibility:

 

The Award will be open to all full-time UGC-funded academic staff members with a minimum of two years of working experience in the University at the time of application. Preference will be given to those applicants who aim to establish research collaborations with NEW partners.

 

 

Selection Criteria and Procedure :

 
  1. Application will be considered based on the academic merit of the application (e.g. the significance of the proposed research collaboration activities), the reputation of the participating university/organisation, University/Faculty/Departmental needs, and the significance of the expected outcomes/deliverables upon completion of the exchange programme.
  2. A call for applications will be made once in every academic year.
  3. A maximum of four applications will be supported annually.
  4. All applications will be submitted to the Dean via the Head of Department (HoD) for consideration and approval.
