From 30 November to 1 December 2023, academic and research staff members from the Department of English Language Education (ELE) participated in the eLearning Forum Asia ‘Digital Futures of Work and Learning: Forging the Way Forward’ hosted by Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).
Dr Timothy Taylor, Senior Lecturer I, and Associate Head of ELE, presented the implementation and results of a long-term action research project called ‘eTeachers Online’, which provided Hong Kong in-service English teachers with a wide range of highly contextualised professional development resources. The project involved hundreds of teaching professionals from Hong Kong and beyond, receiving positive feedback for its accessible and relevant content.
Dr Liubov Darzhinova, Research Grants Council Post-doctoral Fellow of ELE, shared details about the conceptualisation and implementation of an ongoing action research project that aims to enhance language assessment literacy of Hong Kong pre-service English teachers. Through web-based modular training in the form of technology-enhanced reading assessment, the enrolled participants can determine what they already know about language assessment (assessment of learning), identify learning needs (assessment for learning), and gain new specialised knowledge (assessment as learning).
Both presentations sparked discussions that continued after the respective breakout sessions. Thus, eLFA2023 served as a platform for showcasing how action research projects undertaken by ELE colleagues actively contribute to EdUHK’s overall mission of nurturing outstanding and caring educators and professionals.
