Professor Pamela Leung Pui Wan, the former Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities presented the Faculty Teaching Award certificates to the awardees on 12 August 2021, awarding four academic/teaching staff members for their excellent teaching performance and outstanding contributions to the Faculty in 2020/21. They were:
Faculty Teaching Award
1. Dr Zhang Ling, Department of Chinese Language Studies
Dr Zhang is an enthusiastic teacher of Chinese language education. She has an innovative teaching philosophy “CARE” - “Creative”, “Adaptive”, “Reflective” and “Effective”. Her great efforts in teaching have made a very positive impact on students’ learning. Currently, Dr Zhang is the Programme Leader of the BA(TCSL) programme, steering the curriculum review and development of the programme.
Apart from teaching, Dr Zhang actively involves in many learning and teaching related projects. She has been making good use of e-learning resources to enhance blended learning. The educational mobile app “Classical Chinese Poems Sing Along” developed by Dr Zhang received lots of positive social responses. To promote academic exchange, Dr Zhang also took up the role of the key organiser of teaching-related symposium/workshop/conference in the past years.

- Ms Clairine Chan Ka Yin, Department of English Language Education
Ms Chan is a caring and experienced teacher with exemplary teaching performance. She is strong at developing close connections with her students and engaging them in an agile learning environment. Also, Ms Chan actively integrates IT components with her teaching. Her effective teaching is evidenced by the excellent result of SET and favourable feedback from her students and peers.
Ms Chan has taken up multiple leadership and service roles. She has been serving as the Departmental Coordinator of the English Language Teaching Minor, the Field Experience Coordinator and Immersion Coordinator of the PDGE(P) and PGDE(S) programmes. In terms of knowledge transfer, Ms Chan has actively participated in internal and external funded projects, including CRAC projects, TDG projects and QEF projects.
- Dr Shin Kataoka, Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies
Dr Kataoka is a passionate teacher who shows great abilities in integrating research with teaching in practice. The Cantonese self-learning website developed by Dr Kataoka has greatly benefited not only students in EdUHK but also the community as a whole. The Cantonese textbook co-authored by Dr Kataoka has also been chosen as the textbook in many Cantonese programmes in overseas universities such as New York University and the University of British Columbia.
Apart from the above, the multi-lingual and multi-cultural background of Dr Kataoka allows him to contribute significantly to the development of modern language courses. He has been in charge of promoting foreign language learning at the University. Under his leadership, six blended learning courses in Japanese, French and Korean were developed.
- Dr Zhou Lulu, Department of Literature and Cultural Studies
Dr Zhou is a dedicated and caring teacher who is willing to offer timely support and pastoral care to her students. She is good at adopting innovative teaching methods and technologies to cater for students’ different learning needs. Her excellent teaching performance is evidenced by her consistently high SET scores over the years.
In terms of knowledge transfer, Dr Zhou developed various videos under her teaching development projects (“E-learning Package 2021” and “Understanding Media and Popular Culture through Online Self-made Mini Videos 2019-20”). The large number of views recorded for these videos served as a great indicator of her success. Currently, Dr Zhou is the Programme Leader of the MACSLE programme, deeply involving in the curriculum development of the programme.
To foster teaching excellence, the awardees were invited to share their teaching excellence and pedagogical vision through a sharing video. Staff and students can view the videos on the FHM website.

香港教育大學徵文比賽推廣「尊師重道」精神
香港教育大學(教大)第二屆粵港澳大灣區「尊師重道」生命教育徵文比賽圓滿結束,並於2021年8月20日進行網上頒獎禮和分享會,吸引150多個學校和家庭參與。是次比賽有8,029篇來稿,來自香港、澳門、深圳和珠海等地共363間小學。

Saturday Seminar Series (Cohorts 1 and 2)
In the fall of 2021, the Department of English Language Education arranged 10 Saturday Seminars conducted in the hybrid mode with over 500 in-service teachers in attendance. The first five offered practical ideas and strategies for “English Language Teaching in the Digital Era”. The aim was to support practising English language teachers’ professional development by introducing current and emerging digital pedagogical practices. The second series of seminars focused on enhancing student learning through assignments involving a wide range of literary and creative genres. It was designed to help practising teachers strengthen their instructional skills and knowledge in the English Language Education Key Learning Area.
