Following past traditions, the Centre for Research in Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS) and the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML) organised the annual Research Postgraduate (RPg) Student Research Forum on 30 October 2020. Given the pandemic situation, the research forum was conducted online through Zoom. More than 20 colleagues and postgraduate students joined the forum.
Each year, new incoming RPg students are welcomed at the forum. Second year RPg students attending the forum will give a presentation on their research topic. Their supervisors are invited to attend the forum as a supporting figure. The forum is organised each year for the RPg students as a platform for them to present their ongoing research in public, an important step in their academic pursuit. Feedback collected in the forum also helps them advance their thesis research, regardless of their stage of progression in their study.
This year, we welcomed three new incoming RPg students. Ms Liu Ping is affiliated to LML and supervised by Dr Jackie Lee (LML). Ms Tang Khanh Hoa and Mr Wang Hao are affiliated to the Department of English Language Education (ELE) and supervised by Dr Michelle Gu (ELE) and Dr John Trent (ELE) respectively.
Four short presentations were given by our second year RPg students. Ms Liubov Darzhinova (LML; ELE) supervised by Dr Zoe Luk (LML) and Dr Daisy Zou (ELE) gave a presentation on L1 and L2 comprehension of Russian syntactically ambiguous participial relative clause sentences. Ms Dina Kucherbayeva (LML) supervised by Dr Andy Chin (LML) talked about the language attitude and use in Modern Kazakhstan. Ms Sun Xiujuan (ELE) supervised by Dr John Trent (ELE) presented on the topic on a narrative inquiry into the identity construction trajectories of PhD students in Hong Kong. Lastly, Ms Xiang Xiaoting (ELE) supervised by Dr Lucy Yu (ELE) talked about understanding academic writing teacher expertise and its development path.

「停課不停學」經驗分享系列Zoom工作坊
爲配合當前防疫需要,支援中小學教師網上教學,中國語言學系舉辦了「停課不停學」系列Zoom在線語言教育電子課堂講座,邀請了一線資深教師分享「停課不停學」的實踐經驗。相關講座納入「中文教育課程學術活動獎勵計劃」,鼓勵中文準教師裝備自己,學以致用。

「從詩詞欣賞到品德情意教育」教師工作坊
2020年10月10日中國語言學系主辦了「從詩詞欣賞到品德情意教育」教師工作坊。工作坊由香港大學中文學院及國際經典文化協會協辦,優質教育基金贊助,並由中國語言學系主任施仲謀教授擔任主持,旨在探討詩詞教學。工作坊特設兩場專題講座,由學系講師金夢瑤博士主講「以詩涵情,以詩養志」,並邀得香港珠海學院中國文學系教授董就雄博士主講「朗誦與詩詞教學 」。是次工作坊以ZOOM形式進行,共吸引了逾130位參加者出席。

Dr Zou Di from the Department of English Language Education received a silver medal in the International Innovation and Invention Competition (IIIC) Taiwan 2020. IIIC is a renowned event of innovations in the Greater China Region, attracting over 400 innovations from all over the world including Asia, the United States and European countries, every year.
