Content Teachers = Language Teachers

From the perspective of a researcher and secondary school language teacher, I will give an overview to postgraduate students, researchers and university lecturers inside and outside the English Language Teaching community some major ideas related to the teaching of content and language simultaneously at all levels. The audience be able to explore how content-based language teaching (CBLT) is different from other approaches, such as task-based learning. Additionally, the presenter will discuss the current practices of CBLT in local schools in Hong Kong and universities worldwide, the benefits and challenges of CBLT and some content-language teaching skills that have been shown to be conducive to content and language learning, such as using the L1 judiciously. Concrete examples of CBLT lessons will be shown for illustrating the major ideas throughout the presentation.
