● Create lists.
● Write appropriate subheadings.
Interviews were held with the Head of LS, the three main subject heads
and the deputy LS Head, and most of the questions were open‐ended and
the interviews were not limited in time, which allowed respondents to
speak freely about their feelings and opinions. The Head felt that he gave
his HoDs a good deal of authority to run their departments as they wished
and that he was a good delegator but they couldn't operate on their own
because they kept running to him every time a problem occurred, and that
was his impression. The HoDs felt he was a poor delegator always
interfering in their work and demanding to know everything that was going
on and he even chastised them if they made small decisions without asking
his permission. The other major source of complaint was about
decision‐making, the HoDs claiming that it was too slow and holding up
their work, not participative and was generally based on inadequate
information. The Head claimed that he had to make decisions quickly
because he was under pressure from the school supervisor, parents and
the teachers and participation did not work because no one was really
interested anyway. The issue of excessive time at work came up in the
three interviews with HoDs who said that when new tasks were allocated
they were never consulted, it occurred without warning.
