Innovative English teaching in Inner Mongolia

With sponsorship from the Drs. Richard Charles and Esther Yew Pik Lee Charitable Foundation, a unique "English Teacher Training Programme in Inner Mongolia" was launched in August. Six lecturers from the Department of English together with twelve students from the Bachelor of Education (Languages) Programme headed to Inner Mongolia, taking innovative English teaching methods with them. Over 180 secondary and primary school English teachers and 150 primary school students in Inner Mongolia subsequently enjoyed a fruitful teaching and learning experience.

Winning through solidarity, teamwork and cooperation

The stark difference in teaching conditions was a bit of a culture shock in the beginning. However, the students soon adapted making use of the evenings, and sometimes even the nights, to hold evaluation meetings and map out their teaching plans. Working three to a team, their observations and teaching experiences have proven to be so rewarding that they describe them as 'absolutely unforgettable'.
