HKIEd's Centre for International Education is greatly enhancing Hong Kong's commitment to international education. Dr Vernon Crew, who heads the Centre, discussed the Center's vision and objectives, saying -

"While continuing to conduct and refine high quality immersion programmes, taking the students to more sophisticated levels in order to strengthen their language proficiency in both English and Putonghua, we are expanding students' international education opportunities by developing student exchange programmes and short-term overseas study visits. Discussions with overseas universities and other external organisations are now underway to expand these activities. We strongly believe that international education brings a wide range of benefits to our students. It not only broadens students' outlook but also opens them to new ideas and experiences, and extends their friendships and professional networks."

Among the many programmes on the drawing board, an exchange programme between Nanjing Normal University and HKIEd has already taken off. Philip Zhang and Nancy Ji, studying for their Bachelor of English Language and Literature degrees at Nanjing Normal University, were among the nineteen students who completed an attachment programme with us from January to June this year.

Phillip and Nancy described their stay with HKIEd as "enlightening" as they shared their exciting experiences with the Joy of Learning. Under the programme, HKIEd offers a range of credit bearing modules, taught either in English or Putonghua. They were both pleased to be able to choose from this array of modules, which ranged from Phonetics and Phonology, Psycholinguistics and Children's Literature to English for academic or professional purposes and First and Second Language Acquisition.
