Sharing from Miss Li Ching Kei:
To be chosen as a recipient of this scholarship amongst a pool of highly talented and accomplished applicants is truly humbling. It is a recognition of the dedication, hard work, and perseverance I have demonstrated throughout my academic journey. It provides me with invaluable resources and support in the field of public policy and management. Moreover, it instills in me a sense of confidence and validation, bolstering my determination to make a meaningful contribution to the field of study and society at large. Once again, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for selecting me as a recipient of the MPPM scholarship. I am truly honored and excited to embark on this transformative journey, and I am committed to making the most of this incredible opportunity.
Sharing from Miss Li Jingjie:
I am glad to have an opportunity to pursue my further studies at The Education University of Hong Kong. The wonderful curriculum allowed me to appreciate the depth and breadth of knowledge; the rich form of social practice allowed me to continue to strengthen my skills in various challenges. During my lonely but fulfilling days, I walked alone out of the library which was still bright late at night, and felt fulfilled for the knowledge I had learned. I am grateful to the teachers of MPPM for their careful teaching, and friends for their support and encouragement. In the future, I will continue to remain focused, diligent, strong-willed, stick to my original intention, keep learning and growing, and explore various possibilities.
The Master of Arts in Personal Finance Education Programme [MA(PFE)] organised a field visit at Central on 20 and 27 October 2023, themed in "Experiencing the Financial and Commercial Development in Hong Kong".
MA(PFE) students firstly visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) Information Centre. Participating the guided tour at HKMA, students learned more about the history of Hong Kong’s monetary system from 1842 to the present. Additional to this, the guided tour also introduced the functions of HKMA. Our students got an overview on HKMA’s latest policy emphasis on strengthening Hong Kong’s position as an international financial centre, such as the infrastructure financing for Belt and Road Initiative, Cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect Scheme, Green Finance, and promoting Hong Kong as a fintech hub in Asia, etc.
Later, students participated in a walking tour at Central. Through wandering at Central and viewing the financial landmarks, such as HSBC Main Building, Standard Chartered Bank, Tak Wing Pawn Shop, Hang Seng Bank Head Office, Exchange Square, etc, they learned about the historic development of the banking industry in Hong Kong. The walking tour also presented some fascinating lesser-known stories, telling the rise and fall of British, Hong Kong, and mainland Chinese companies in the commerce world of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong’s post-Covid economic rebound has been somewhat lacklustre contrary to expectations. This is partly due to the sluggish economic situation worldwide and partly the troubles on the mainland where the bursting of the real estate bubble and weakening investment and consumption moods are inducing a slowdown. The city’s aspirations to diversify its economic base, including grooming an innovation and technology hub, also face challenges in human and financial capital supply amid adverse geopolitics. At this critical juncture, how should Hong Kong re-strategize to meet new challenges and capture new opportunities?
