Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies (SSPS) at The Education University of Hong Kong. As the newly appointed Head, I am delighted to introduce our vibrant academic community, where curiosity, collaboration, and societal impact converge to shape meaningful futures.
Situated in the dynamic heart of Hong Kong, SSPS stands as a beacon of interdisciplinary scholarship. Our dedicated faculty and students explore a rich array of fields—sociology, geography, policy studies, and personal finance—united by a shared commitment to addressing the complexities of our world. Our medium-sized department thrives on collegiality, creating an environment where innovative ideas flourish and students are mentored with care and purpose.
Our academic programmes are thoughtfully designed to blend rigorous theory with practical application. At the undergraduate level, we offer BSocSc in Sociology and Community Studies, BSocSc in Social Entrepreneurship and Development Studies, BA in Personal Finance, and double-degree programmes (BSocSc or BA and BEd) in Geography, Primary Humanities, and Business, Accounting, and Finance Studies. These equip students with analytical tools to navigate global and local challenges. At the postgraduate level, our Master of Public Policy and Management (MPPM) and Master of Arts (MA) in Personal Finance Education provide specialised training for professionals seeking to lead in dynamic fields. Through hands-on internships and field studies in the Greater Bay Area, we emphasise experiential learning that bridges classroom insights with real-world impact.
SSPS is renowned for its research excellence. Our faculty’s work addresses pressing societal issues, including elderly care and population ageing, alongside post-COVID societal trends and sustainable social entrepreneurship. These efforts, often in collaboration with community partners, earn recognition for their depth and relevance, shaping policy and practice.

Advance social science and policy research that is both globally significant and locally relevant
Carry out the highest standard of teaching in the interdisciplinary social sciences and policy studies
Inspire students to make use of scientific methods to actively engage in exploration and inquiry into social and policy issues in multiple geographical contexts
Engage actively in research-grounded knowledge exchange and transfer with schooling, professional, non-governmental organization, business, and government communities
