EdUHK Signs MoU with MUST to Foster Academic Collaboration and Establish ‘Future Leadership Education Centre’

05 Nov 2024

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) today (5 November) to foster academic collaboration. Both universities agreed to leverage their respective academic strengths to cooperate in research and teaching, facilitate faculty and student exchanges, develop a plan for student admission to postgraduate programmes without examination, and jointly establish postgraduate programmes, thereby fostering complementary advantages, resource sharing, and joint development.

The signing ceremony was held on the MUST campus. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, EdUHK President and Professor Joseph Lee Hun-wei, President of MUST, represented both universities to sign the MoU and letter of intent to establish ‘Future Leadership Education Centres’ on each university's campus.

According to the MoU, EdUHK and MUST will mutually establish Future Leadership Education Centres. Both universities will set up exchange programmes between faculty staff and students for academic collaboration, including mutual hiring of teachers and selecting outstanding students for study exchanges. Outstanding undergraduate graduates will be recommended for admission to the master's degree programmes of the other university without the need for an entrance exam. They will also jointly explore the establishment of new master's and doctoral degree programmes, collaborate in training graduate students, and engage in research cooperation and short-term training programme cooperation.

At the signing ceremony, EdUHK President Professor Lee said that the University has always been committed to collaborating with excellent universities worldwide to provide students with more academic options. He noted that this collaboration is a significant initiative in response  to the national development strategy for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which aims to facilitate the sharing of educational and research resources in the region.

As MUST is an international comprehensive university, the partnership enables sharing of educational resources between Hong Kong and Macau, complements both universities' strengths, achieves mutual benefits, and facilitates the development of the education sector in the Greater Bay Area. It enables students from both universities to have broader international perspectives and development opportunities.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, EdUHK Vice President (Research and Development), Mr Donny Siu Koon-ming, Director of Global Affairs, Ms Helen Gai Hui Xia, Director of Communications and Engagement; and Dr Tong Ka-lok, Vice President of MUST, Ms Amy Chu, Head of Academic Affairs Office, and Mr Fung Kwan-kwok, Executive Officer of School of Graduate Studies.
