Seminars and Mini-Conference on Digital Humanities Research and Teaching Promote Exchange of Ideas

The Digital Humanities Seminars and Mini-Conference on Digital Humanities Research and Teaching were successfully held on 1 and 2 March 2023. This event was the joint effort of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML), the Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS), and National Taiwan University.
The two seminars on “Digital Archives and Digital Humanities” and “Investigating Research Developments of Digital Humanities based on Publications” were delivered by Prof Chen Kuang-hua, the University Librarian of National Taiwan University. During the consultation sessions, Prof Chen further shared his rich experience and knowledge of digital humanities research. Colleagues, students from EdUHK, and fellows from other universities received constructive feedback and suggestions on developing digital humanities projects.
The event ended with a mini-conference. Prof Hung Jen-jou from Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts first explained the extraction and analysis of the citation of Chinese Buddhist electronic texts in Buddhist studies publications. After that, Prof Tang Muh-chyun from National Taiwan University talked about the use of co-word network community detection and topic modeling to extract topics from TED Talks. Dr Lai Yik Po and Dr Lau Chaak Ming from LML also introduced a digital platform for collecting online language data and a language recognition system for examining the use of written Cantonese in Hong Kong respectively.
The event was supported by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation and attracted more than 110 participants.

MATCIL received IB Re-certification
Master of Arts in Teaching Chinese as an International Language (MATCIL) obtained the International Baccalaureate (IB) Educator Certificate (Diploma Programme [DP]) in January 2017 and was permitted to offer IB-recognised programme of study leading to the IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning (DP). Towards the end of 2022, the programme applied for a renewal with IB Organisation (IBO).
