Faculty Teaching Award

Call for Nomination
Teaching Award Scheme 2023/2024

 

Teaching Award Scheme aims to give recognition to faculty members who are committed to teaching. The award will be in the form of individual or group awards, and are conferred at the Faculty level. The award consists of a certificate and a monetary award of HK$25,000 to be used by the awardee solely for educational activities. Awardees’ names will be permanently displayed at the main entrance of the EdUHK Library.

 

Eligibility:

Full-time academic/teaching staff with a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the university at the time of nomination

He has successfully secured numerous grants for diverse initiatives and excels in connecting local schools with professionals in the Greater Bay Area. Additionally, Dr Lai contributes significantly through community service and knowledge transfer, leveraging exceptional networking skills to improve learning-teaching interactions in over 100 schools.

Her enthusiasm for incorporating animation into teaching, along with partnerships with local schools and the EDB, has significantly impacted over 10,000 students and 300 frontline teachers, enhancing their educational experiences and professional development.

His strong leadership in developing and promoting the new BA in English Studies and Digital Communication programme (BA[ESDC]) is most impressive. Apart from teaching, Dr Lee has been contributing to a wide range of learning and teaching projects. He has completed a faculty knowledge transfer project with another professor and created a manual on acoustic phonetics for speech-language therapists in mainland China. He ran a workshop for 930 professionals from across the country.

Dr Liao is an innovative teacher who has developed his own pedagogical model, “SHAPE”: Strategy instruction, Holistic care, Assessment for learning, Participation, and E-learning. He actively integrates IT components into his teaching. Apart from that, Dr Liao has participated in a wide range of projects related to e-learning, and has been working on various research projects related to Chinese language learning and teaching, including a GRF project and an ECS project. He is now serving as the Associate Head (Research) of CHL. His research-informed teaching has made a positive impact in his department.

Ms Lee is a passionate and experienced teacher with very good teaching performance, as evidenced by her consistently high SET scores. Besides her day-to-day teaching at the University, she has worked closely with practitioners in local schools to strengthen the connections between the academics and practitioners. For example, she led a Teaching Development Grants Project on an ebook programme designed to support struggling readers in local primary schools. She also led a Faculty Special Project where she introduced digital storytelling to local secondary schools to explore ways to enhance English language learning with the use of multimodal texts. As the Programme Leader of Professional Development Programmes (English), Ms Lee also made great contribution to the professional development of local English language teachers, leading the development of new PDP courses, which focused on meeting local English teachers’ current and practical needs.

Dr Zhang is an enthusiastic teacher of Chinese language education. She has an innovative teaching philosophy “CARE” - “Creative”, “Adaptive”, “Reflective” and “Effective”. Her great efforts in teaching have made a very positive impact on students’ learning. Currently, Dr Zhang is the Programme Leader of the BA(TCSL) programme, steering the curriculum review and development of the programme.

Apart from teaching, Dr Zhang actively involves in many learning and teaching related projects. She has been making good use of e-learning resources to enhance blended learning. The educational mobile app “Classical Chinese Poems Sing Along” developed by Dr Zhang received lots of positive social responses. To promote academic exchange, Dr Zhang also took up the role of the key organiser of three teaching-related symposium/workshop/conference in 2019.

Ms Chan has taken up multiple leadership and service roles. She has been serving as the Departmental Coordinator of the English Language Teaching Minor, the Field Experience Coordinator and Immersion Coordinator of the PDGE(P) and PGDE(S) programmes. In terms of knowledge transfer, Ms Chan has actively participated in internal and external funded projects, including CRAC projects, TDG projects and QEF projects.

Dr Kataoka is a passionate teacher who shows great abilities in integrating research with teaching in practice. The Cantonese self-learning website developed by Dr Kataoka has greatly benefited not only students in the EdUHK but also the community as a whole. The Cantonese textbook co-authored by Dr Kataoka has also been chosen as the textbook in many Cantonese programmes in overseas universities such as New York University and the University of British Columbia.

Apart from the above, the multi-lingual and multi-cultural background of Dr Kataoka allows him to contribute significantly to the development of modern language courses. He has been in charge of promoting foreign language learning at the University. Under his leadership, six blended learning courses in Japanese, French and Korean were developed.

Dr Zhou is a dedicated and caring teacher who is willing to offer timely support and pastoral care to her students. In terms of knowledge transfer, Dr Zhou developed various videos under her teaching development projects (“E-learning Package 2021” and “Understanding Media and Popular Culture through Online Self-made Mini Videos 2019-20”). The large number of views recorded for these videos served as a great indicator of her success. Currently, Dr Zhou is the Programme Leader of the MACSLE programme, deeply involving in the curriculum development of the programme.

She has been taking a leading role in integrating mobile technologies with teaching in various courses. Besides, Dr Ma has demonstrated strong leadership in scholarship work. Her project team of “Education Linguistics 2.0 – The Use of Corpora in Language Teaching” won the Silver Medal at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva in 2019.

Dr Wong is an experienced and all-round educator in Chinese modern literature and creative writing. His SET scores have been consistently one of the highest among the peers. Over the years, the club has nurtured many talented young writers and literature educators, and produced many prize-winners in local writing competitions. Dr Wang is an experienced and dedicated teacher with exemplary teaching performance, evidenced by his consistently high SET score and excellent feedback from his students and peers. He excels at adopting various innovative methods and information technologies in his teaching to engage students in an agile learning environment. Besides teaching, Dr Wang’s significant contribution to the scholarship of teaching is equally impressive. He has actively offered various workshops, talks and sharing sessions to disseminate good teaching practices at the departmental, faculty and university levels. In terms of research that related to teaching, Dr Wang participated in more than six TDG and Central Reserve Fund projects between 2014 and 2018. He has produced over 10 high quality publications from 2015 onwards, in areas such as language education, corpus linguistics, and mobile learning. Dr Wang served as the Programme Leader of the BEd(English Language) programme and the Double Degree of BA(Language Studies) & BEd (English Language) programmes over the past few years. During the period of his leadership, Dr Wang has successfully enhanced the programme curriculum in every aspect. Started from June 2018, Dr Wang has taken up the role of the Associate Dean (Quality Assurance and Enhancement) to oversee the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, as well as the academic standard of all programmes in the FHM.

She served as the course coordinator of five English courses for the ECE programme from 2012-14, and has taken up the coordination role of a large-scale English course for over 400 ECE students since 2014. Besides, Ms Lin plays an important role in pioneering various e-learning initiatives in CLE. She serves as the technology representative of the English team and the blended learning ambassador of CLE.

To cater for students’ diversified needs, Dr Kang adopts different teaching strategies, such as using “4-re” teaching methods (reconstruct, reread, reflect and research), and evidence-based approach to develop students’ critical thinking in history and pop-culture area. Besides, Dr Kang is committed to pursuing quality teaching and pedagogical innovative teaching. Apart from teaching, Dr Yu has played an important role in pioneering the reorganization and optimization of Field Experience for the Chinese programmes in the Faculty. In terms of research, Dr Yu has successfully published four international articles and six referred journals in the past few years.

Apart from teaching, Dr Liu has been actively participating in the development of translation courses and programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. In terms of research, Dr Liu has successfully published a number of articles in international referred journals in the past few years, and she is dedicated to connect her research outputs with teaching.
