The Faculty of Humanities (FHM) held an opening ceremony on 15 June 2023 for the Humanities Research Hub, which will be the new house for the three research centres of FHM - Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE), Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS) and International Research Centre for Cultural Studies (IRCCS).
We were honoured that Prof Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Research and Development), Dr Sammy Hui King-fai, the Acting Vice President (Academic), Prof John Erni, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (FHM) and Centre Director of International Research Centre for Cultural Studies (IRCCS), Dr Liang Yuan, Associate Centre Director of Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE), and Dr Rebecca Chen, Associate Centre Director of Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS) attended as our officiating guests for our ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Prof Chan said he was delighted to see FHM being home to many distinguished scholars and academic staff, who endeavor to produce high-quality academic works that have brought honour to FHM and the University as a whole.
He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to multidisciplinary research through the new Multidisciplinary Research Capacity Building Scheme, and the establishment of the Centre for Immersive Learning and Metaverse in Education (CILME), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Dr Hui mentioned that FHM had accomplished significant research achievements in various areas within a decade. “With this new space of the Humanities Research Hub, FHM will be able to sharpen their two new strategic focuses, namely Digital Humanities (DH) and Comparative Cultures of Care (CCC),” He said.
In his speech, Prof Erni said, “This Humanities Research Hub was conceived with the purpose of incubating new research inquiries within and beyond the humanities. In all, we envision this as a vibrant space that will empower our community with creative, cutting-edge initiatives.” He expressed gratitude to Professor Chan, who has generously offered FHM this space, and looked forward to the partnership with other humanities research hubs and centres in Hong Kong and in the Greater Bay Area.
The ceremony was followed by the sharing of the four research centres of FHM, during which Dr Liang Yuan, Associate Centre Director of CRCLE, Ms Justine Chan, Year 1 Research Postgraduate student of CRLLS, Dr Eric Feng, Project Officer of IRCCS, and Dr Yip Cheuk Wai, Centre Director of Research Centre for Chinese Literature and Literary Culture (RCCLLC) presented the key projects and research areas of respective centres.
