Ms Lai Tsz Ying Stephanie, Year 5 Student from the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) in 2022/23
Under the influence of my parents and my secondary school teacher, being an English teacher has always been my dream. My dream is to become a teacher who has a positive influence on students and I am honoured to receive the 10th Hong Kong Outstanding Prospective Teacher Awards – Gold Award. I am also truly grateful for the support given by my parents and teachers. Without them, I would never be able to become who I am today.
Within these five years of study at EdUHK, I have been participating in various education-related activities to gain hands-on experience in teaching. In the FE semester, I was very grateful that the university had given me an opportunity to teach in an authentic context. Not only did I have a deeper understanding of how Hong Kong students learn English in a traditional classroom setting, but also the importance of creating a positive environment for students to learn English and use the language confidently after this practicum. I am very grateful that EdUHK has given me this opportunity to equip myself to be a better prospective English teacher in Hong Kong.
After graduation, I hope to be an English teacher who can inspire students to use English effectively, motivate them to learn, and become self-directed English learners. I hope my students are interested in learning English and can use the language to broaden their horizons. As a teacher, I aspire to become my students’ companion throughout their learning process and learn English happily.
