Ms Yu Ching Wing, Year 3 from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (Chinese Major) in 2022/23
As a Language Studies (Chinese major) student at FHM, my university life has been fulfilling and exciting. The diverse curriculum and rich resources from the Faculty have enhanced my professional knowledge and broadened my global perspective. The programme has collaborated with many local companies and organisations, such as publishers, literary journals, and NGOs, offering students various internship opportunities. In addition, the professors and lecturers teach with dedication and care for students. They truly embody the spirit of the humanities.
In my learning experience, I have benefited from the creation of e-portfolios. By documenting my learning journey on a web-based platform, I have consolidated my knowledge and sharpened my computer skills. I still vividly recall how when I first started at EdUHK, I was very frustrated by this digital component in my programme. Only after persistent attempts did I learn to enjoy retracing my learning experience via the electronic tool. In the academic year 2022/23, my e-portfolio for ENG2336 was lauded by my classmates. In the e-portfolio, I adopted Hofstede’s six dimensions and Hall’s high-low context theories to study my personal online communication habits. The project’s larger aim was to study how an individual’s encounters and the social environment influence digital communication modes. In addition, the e-portfolio records my self-learning after the class. For example, I watched a video about making Hakka turnip cakes to understand the food culture of Hakka. To my delight, I achieved a good grade for this assignment, which motivated me to learn more after the lessons.
