Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has recently launched the ‘Fun to Chinese Poetry’ learning application, free for primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong. The application aligns closely with the EDB’s recommended classical poetry texts, featuring engaging multimedia content designed around 50 poems, integrating multiple ways of learning poetry: Reading, Interpretation, Singing, and Playing. Using recitation, animation, music, and games to expound the classical poems, students can appreciate the beauty of poetry at their fingertips. ‘Fun to Chinese Poetry’ not only fully utilises multimedia technology, but also appropriately applies information technology to offer personalised poetry recommendations based on student interests, breaking the stereotype that classical poetry is boring and hard to understand, and encouraging more engagement in poetry learning. It is reportedly the first application in Hong Kong to provide comprehensive content for learning Chinese classical poetry, and it is believed to offer strong support to frontline teaching, assist teachers in delivering teaching tailored to students' abilities and encapsulates education within entertainment.
The application is one of the deliverables for the project ‘An AI-enhanced Way to Learn Chinese Culture: Starting from Classical Chinese Poetry’ supported by Central Reserve Allocation Committee (CRAC). Around 20 primary and secondary schools have expressed interest in using this application for teaching.
