Tang Lai Shan, Year 3 Student of BEd(CL) (2019/20)
I participated in the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese Language) Summer Internship Scheme in Summer 2019 and was allocated to teach an intensive writing course for language enhancement in a secondary school. My goal was to cultivate students' interests and creativity in Chinese writing, and further enhance their ability in Chinese writing and appreciating skills.
I believe that cultivating students’ interest is important to motivate students’ learning. I adopted different teaching strategies to facilitate students’ learning in writing multi-sensory descriptions. For instance, I asked students to describe one kind of food by peer-to-peer interactions, such as group discussion and riddles. The student-centred teaching method made students more engaged in the class. The teacher-student and student-student interaction built a bridge to learn and improve together.
Teaching has enabled me to consolidate what I have learned and made me know how to better evaluate myself. It has urged me to keep learning from mistakes and improve further to become a professional teacher.
