Students above the age of 18
A person attains adulthood at the age of 18. At this time, he is able to
enter into binding contracts, to vote in public elections, to get married
without parental consent, to draw a will, to take up company
directorships and to hold a driving license. Once a person reaches the
age of 18 the teacher cannot be in loco parentis. The school’s
relationship with the student’s parents is transformed from a legal to a
moral one, with the school needing to exercise particular care with
regard to disclosure of personal information such as examination
results. This should not be sent to the student’s parents without his
express consent.
