Searching students is a problematic area. The unlawful touching of
another person may constitute an assault. The interference of another
person’s property may constitute a trespass. Consider obtaining a

student’s consent to a search. If the student is unwilling, consider
involving parents or police if there is an unlawful article suspected.
Never conduct opposite sex searches or use force.

The Codes of Aid contain specific provisions regulating the expulsion
and suspension of students. Generally, pupils must not be expelled

solely on the ground that they are academically weak and suspension is
not considered as an appropriate way to treat a misbehaved pupil.
Care must be taken to involve parents at an early date.
