Stage 1 – Training Program
Twenty academic staff chosen by the Nanjing Normal University Of Special Education took part in the training program in I-WELL from 20th January to 26th January, 2019.
Officiated at the opening ceremony were Mr. Sam H. S. Tin, Chairman of Tin Ka Ping Foundation; Dr. Yuen Chi Pun, Director of I-WELL and Prof. Leung Chi Hung, Co-Director of I-WELL and Mr. Law Kai Hong, Former Principal of Haven of Hope Sunnyside School.
- Introduction to innovation and technology, neuroscience, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) education
- Application of innovation and technology, neuroscience, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) education in both special and normal schools
- Usage of innovation and technology, neuroscience, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in special education research, along with the conversion into daily application and education grounds
- Learning how special schools in Hong Kong applied AR and VR in education through field studies

20 teachers of Nanjing Normal University of Special Education have participated in the five-day workshop. During the workshop, Prof. Leung Chi Hung, Co-Director of I-WELL shared application of research findings on neuroscience, augmented reality and virtual reality in raising students’ learning ability. Academics of the Department of Special Education and Counselling and experienced local principal have delivered workshops on applying e-learning to facilitate learning of students with dyslexia and electronic games to help students with language delay.
On the last day of workshop, the participants visited Kei Shun Special School and Sam Shui Natives Association Lau Pun Cheung School to observe how special schools in Hong Kong apply augmented reality and virtual reality to their teaching.
The workshop serves as the inaugural event of the Research on Neuroscience and Education Technology in Special Education Project. In the second stage, a delegation will supervise how Nanjing Normal University of Special Education can apply neuroscience and education technology in their curriculum.
