Integrated Centre for Wellbeing (I-WELL) invites you to join the "Elderly Buddies Hand-in-hand Scheme" This program is funded by the second phase of the Mental Health Project Grant Scheme, organized by the Mental Health Counseling Committee. It offers a range of enriching activities, including mental health training courses, group visits, the establishment of a community mental health care network (regular tea gatherings), and the creation of an elderly ambassador support system (caring volunteer activities). Through this program, we aim to raise awareness of elderly individuals with mental health needs and enhance public knowledge in this area.***Latest Update: Registration for the first phase of the 18-hour systematic mental health training course has now closed. The first phase of the basic mental health training course is about to begin. Here are the details:
18-hour Basic Mental Health Training Course (First Phase)
Date: July 21, 28, and August 4, 2023 (Fridays)
Time: 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (with a one-hour lunch break)
Location: The Education University of Hong Kong (Tai Po Campus) *Shuttle buses are available between the University Station and the Education University, if required
Target Participants: Caregivers of the elderly or alert caregivers
Course Content:
1. Understanding Elderly Individuals with Mental Health Needs (I) – Cognitive Impairment and Mild Cognitive Impairment
2. Understanding Elderly Individuals with Mental Health Needs (II) – Depression and Anxiety
3. Providing Support for Elderly Individuals with Mental Health Needs in Their Environment
4. Counseling Elderly Individuals with Mental Health Needs
5. Supporting Elderly Individuals with Self-harm or Suicidal Behavior
6. Existing Services and Programs/Online Counseling and Community Resources
Language and Format: The course will be conducted in Cantonese through face-to-face instruction.
Teaching Team: Professor Leung Chi Hung (Deputy Director of I-WELL Center) Expert representatives, including experienced clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, registered social workers, and representatives from the Ko Huen Charitable Foundation in the field of elderly mental health services.
The program is free of charge, and participants who complete the course will receive a certificate as an encouragement. We are excited to have you join us!
