Is EdUHK a public university?

What are the academic faculties in EdUHK recruiting non-local undergraduate students?

There are three faculties in EdUHK recruiting non-local undergraduate students: Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social SciencesFaculty of Education and Human Development and Faculty of Humanities.

What are the differences between Bachelor of Education (BEd) programmes and other undergraduate programmes?

Bachelor of Education (BEd) programmes are aimed at training pre-service teachers who will be equipped well with in-depth major-related knowledge and professional teacher training. Graduates of the BEd programmes may register with the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government as a qualified teacher and teach in kindergartens, primary schools or secondary schools.

Graduates of the 5-year full-time co-terminal double degree programmes will be awarded both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education qualifications. They will be equipped with solid subject knowledge in addition to in-depth knowledge and skills in professional teaching training.

Graduates of the 4-year full-time complementary undergraduate programmes will be awarded the qualification of Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Social Sciences with solid subject knowledge. Graduates who wish to join the teaching profession may choose to undertake the one-year full-time or two-year part-time Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes in order to acquire the qualification for registering as qualified teachers.

What are the general entrance requirements for admission to undergraduate programmes?

General entrance requirements of international students

A list of acceptable non-local qualifications for meeting the general entrance requirements for undergraduate programmes can be found here. Qualifications not listed there will be considered on an individual basis. Due to quota limit, applicants having satisfied the University's entrance requirements will be considered for admission on a competitive basis. To be competitive for admission, applicants are strongly advised to upload academic proof to the Online Application System on or before 31 May 2023. For some qualifications, applications may be reviewed after the release of public examination results.

How many programmes can I apply for?

Each applicant can submit the application for a maximum of two programme choices. To facilitate the admission process, applicants are required to indicate their first programme preference via the online application system. Applicants can refer to the list of EdUHK Full-time Undergraduate Programmes for 2022/23 Entry to choose the programme they apply for based on their respective academic backgrounds.

Apart from the websites of individual undergraduate programmes, what other channels can I learn more about the respective programme information?

Applicants can also visit the Media Library, which provides the programme prospectus/ leaflet, student sharing and introductory video to help them better understand the relevant undergraduate programmes. Applicants can also subscribe to eNews if they wish to receive the latest admission news and activities information of the University.

What documents are required in support of my application?

Applicants are advised to make careful choice and understand the programme curriculum and graduate prospect before submitting the online application, as well as to prepare the proof of identity, academic qualifications and supporting documents to facilitate them to fill in their personal particulars accurately and upload the relevant documents. The application fee of HK $300 will be charged by credit card when submit the application through the online application system. The fee once paid is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Can I modify my programme choices or preference after submitting my application?

Applicants can apply for modification of programme choices or preference by email before the deadline for application. No further modification is allowed after the deadline.

Can I apply for transfer to other bachelor's degree programmes during my study?

In principle, freshmen who apply for transfer to another bachelor's degree programme within the first semester after registration will not be considered. Current students are required to complete at least one semester of study, and can apply for programme transfer through the established mechanism. Before submitting the application, students are required to obtain the endorsement from the respective programme leader, in addition to the approval from the Hong Kong Immigration Department. The Hong Kong Immigration Department will approve the application in accordance with the relevant immigration ordinance. For details, please refer to the "Guidebook for Entry for Study in Hong Kong". If approved, it will generally take effect in the next semester/academic year. For details, please refer to the relevant application guidelines.

How can I check the progress of my application?

Upon successful submission of application, you will receive an application acknowledgement by email within one day of submission. It contains your application number and choice of programme. Please retain this acknowledgement for future reference and enquiries. Shortlisted applicants invited for admission interview / test will be notified by email. Please check your email regularly after submission of application in order to receive any updates or interview invitation from the University.

Which bachelor's degree programmes do not require admission interviews?

Admission interviews are required for all five-year full-time Bachelor of Education programmes. Other four-year full-time Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Social Sciences/ Bachelor of Science programmes may require for admission interviews as appropriate.

Do I need to attend admission interviews? How would I be noticed if I am selected for interviews?

Eligible applicants may be requested to attend interviews for further assessment through electronic means such as Skype / Zoom. Shortlisted applicants will receive individual notifications by email. Applicants are strongly advised to check their personal emails frequently after submission of applications in order to receive any updates or interview invitations from the University. It is therefore important that the email address you provided is correct and up-to-date. Please login your online application account to update your email address and contact phone number when changes occur. Applicants are strongly advised to use the email address that registered in our Online Application System for communication with the University.

How can I apply for scholarships?

Entrance scholarship will be granted automatically to outstanding applicants who obtain excellent academic results and demonstrate outstanding performance in admission interviews. In this regard, no separate application for scholarship is required. For those who have not been awarded entrance scholarship can apply for a range of scholarships during their studies at the University. How much are the tuition fees? How can I settle the tuition fees?

The tuition fee for the 2023/24 academic year is HK$140,000, payable in two instalments. Tuition fees are subject to change.

Enrolment deposits paid will be counted towards part of the tuition fee. The remaining amount of the tuition fee for the first semester should be settled by mid-October. Students can check the amount of the fees payable (including tuition fees, accommodation fees and other study-related fees) by logging in The Portal.

As a non-local student, how can I apply for a student visa for my studies in EdUHK?

Our Global Affairs Office (GAO) will render assistance to non-local students for their visa applications. Successful non-local students are advised to submit the required documents to GAO as early as possible as it often takes considerable time (normally 6 to 8 weeks) for the Immigration Department of the HKSAR to process your visa application. For details, please refer to the website of the Hong Kong Immigration Department.

How long does the student visa application takes to be approved? Am I able to urge the visa application progress?

GAO will send your visa application materials to the Immigration Department of the HKSAR for review.  It normally takes at least 6-8 weeks to complete the process. Kindly note that June-August are the peak season for visa applications in the Immigration Department and therefore the visa processing time is usually prolonged. Students are highly recommended to submit their visa applications as early as possible.  After the applicants have submitted the required academic documents to Registry and the documents are verified to the satisfaction of the University, GAO will send the e-visa to students by email.

Does EdUHK provide accommodation to non-local students?

According to the EdUHK hall policy, all first year full-time students on a UGC-funded undergraduate programme would be offered guaranteed hall residency for the first year of study. Students are required to submit their hall applications via iHostel system. The provision of hall places for students in their second year and subsequent years of study is based on the hall point system. How does EdUHK help non-local students adapt the life in Hong Kong?

Student Affairs Office will provide an array of services to support to non-local students throughout their course of studies at the University. Through orientation activities, buddy programmes, community exploration activities, festival gatherings, group activities and individual counselling services, students can enhance their understanding of Hong Kong, so that they can adapt to their study and campus life as soon as possible, and integrate into the student community.

The Arthur Samy Language Learning Centre (ASLLC) provides students with a number of self-study software for learning Cantonese. The Centre will also offer Cantonese courses at the beginning of the semester so that students who are interested can apply to learn Cantonese.

Can I take up part-time employment in Hong Kong?

Non-local students (excluding exchange students) of EdUHK full-time locally-accredited local programmes at undergraduate level or above whose study period is not less than one academic year may, during the currency of their limit of stay, take up:

  1. part-time on-campus employment for not more than 20 hours per week throughout the year; and
  2. eligible students may only take up summer employment during the summer months which are taken to mean the period from 1 June to 31 August, both dates inclusive. Eligible students are not allowed to take up summer employment outside this period, regardless of the actual period of summer vacation for his/her academic programme. There is, however, no limit in relation to working hours and locations.

Am I required to make my own arrangement for personal insurance covering the entire course of study in EdUHK?

The Education University of Hong Kong provides its students with the University’s group insurance. For details, please refer to the policy here. (Login with the EdUHK student ID and password is required.)

Students should make their own arrangements for personal accident, travel and health insurance covering the entire period of study in Hong Kong.

How is the prospect of EdUHK graduates?

Can I stay in Hong Kong for work after graduation?

Non-local fresh graduates are allowed to stay in Hong Kong for 12 months after graduation without any restrictions to seek jobs. To learn more, please refer to the website of the Hong Kong Immigration Department.

Non-local Postgraduate students

Are the qualifications awarded by EdUHK internationally recognised?

Yes, EdUHK is one of the eight government-funded universities in Hong Kong and its undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral qualifications are internationally recognised.

Do I need to submit any referee’s report / study statement / research proposal / artwork portfolio in support of my application?

Will I need to attend an interview?

Interview is not mandatory for all programmes and only some have interview arrangements. If applicants are invited to attend an interview, their interview performance will also be considered.

Is it necessary to pass the medical check before admitting to EdUHK?

Medical check is not compulsory in programme admission.  However, students are recommended to have their own insurance before arrival.

How can I submit my student visa/entry permit application?

Applicants are required to send the completed visa application form and required supporting documents by courier to our Registry before the stipulated deadline on the offer letter issued by the University. (Address: Admissions, Registrations and Academic Planning Section, Room A-2/F-07, Cho Kwai Chee Foundation Building, The Education University of Hong Kong, 10 Lo Ping Road, Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong).

Are there any scholarships offered to postgraduate/doctoral degree students? How can I be eligible for the scholarships?

EdUHK provides a full range of scholarships which are awarded mainly based on academic merit. Also considered are community service, extra-curricular activities, leadership ability and other criteria stipulated by donors. The scholarships aim to encourage students to achieve greater accomplishments and recognise their outstanding academic achievements. Does EdUHK offer the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme?

EdUHK offers the Hong Kong PhD Scholarship Scheme, which aims to attract outstanding postgraduate students worldwide to pursue research-based PhD programmes in UGC-funded institutions in Hong Kong. Candidates who are seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in UGC-funded institutions in Hong Kong, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Where can I find ATM and banking services?

There are more than one automated teller machines (ATMs) on campus, or you may find different banks in the neighboring areas such as Tai Po Centre and Tai Po Market.

As a non-local student, what documents are required for opening a bank account?

  • Document required for opening a bank account depends on the banks’ request. Normally, all of the following documents are needed:
  • Passport with valid student visa;
  • Hong Kong ID Card (if any);
  • Valid national ID card (i.e. issued by the government or country);
  • Residential address proof (for both original country and Hong Kong) (Students can use the residential address proof issued by the University’s hall);
  • Minimum account opening amount of HKD100 (requirements varied in different banks);
  • Student ID card; and
  • Valid university offer letter

Student Exchange Programmes (Inbound)

Who are eligible to apply for the exchange programmes at EdUHK?

Any students nominated by EdUHK partner institutions.

How long is the exchange programmes?

One semester or one academic year.

What courses/programmes at EdUHK are open to inbound exchange students?

The list of courses is available here. Please pay attention to the language of instruction. Some courses are taught in Chinese only.

This list is updated regularly. Students are advised to keep visiting the web page to check the latest courses available. Email reminders on the latest course list are sent to exchange students periodically.

Can the credits I earn at EdUHK be transferred to my home institution?

In general, credits gained at EdUHK are transferable, though recognition of studies undertaken at EdUHK remains at the discretion of your home institution. An official academic transcript will be sent to your home institution after completion of exchange.

Is on-campus accommodation provided?

Yes, on-campus accommodation is guaranteed for all inbound exchange students.

What do I need to pay for my exchange at EdUHK?

Airfare, campus accommodation, visa, and living expenses. Tuition fees continue to be paid to your home institution.

Is there an insurance requirement?

Yes, it is mandatory for exchange students to arrange travel and health insurance covering the entire period of study in Hong Kong. Insurance should cover (but not be limited to) travel, personal accident, medical expenses (accident and non-accident), hospitalisation and emergency evacuation/repatriation. There is no requirement on the amount of insurance coverage. This will depend on individual needs.

Students are required to provide proof of insurance coverage prior to arrival.

I’m a postgraduate student, can I apply for the programmes?

Postgraduate students are accepted as long as their host institutions approve and nominate them. However, courses available to exchange students are at undergraduate level only.

Am I able to have internship/part-time job during the exchange period in EdUHK?

Internship related courses are not available for inbound exchange students. Under the Immigration Regulations, exchange students are not eligible for internship during the exchange period.

Do I need to apply for a Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID)?

Depends on the duration of your exchange study at EdUHK. If you only stay in Hong Kong for one semester (i.e. less than 180 days), you don’t need to apply for a HKID.

Where can I find ATM and banking services?

Is there a clinic on campus?

Yes. International and exchange students can obtain medical services at the Health Centre (Location: A-1/F-09; Tel: 29486262) at the same nominal rates as other full-time students. Check out more details here.

Can I take up part-time employment in Hong Kong?

Under Immigration Ordinance, Cap 115, Laws of Hong Kong, exchange students studying at Hong Kong tertiary institutions cannot take up any part-time or full-time employment, whether it is paid or unpaid. 

Can I leave Hong Kong before the regular term ends?

Students are highly recommended to complete all the assignment and examinations before leaving. Students who wish to leave early will have to inform GAO and their home institutions for approval. There will be necessary procedures to go through before departure.

My family/friends will be coming to see me in Hong Kong. Are visitors' quarters available on campus?

No, but accommodation options are available via the Hong Kong Tourism Board website.

Do I need a visa for visiting Mainland China?

Yes, you must apply for a Mainland China visa in Hong Kong in advance. You can apply for this at any one of the China Travel Service (HK) branches. More information is available here. Alternatively, you may apply for a Mainland China visa from the Chinese embassy or consulate-general in your home country.

When should I arrive?

Students are advised to arrive before the semester begins to familiarise themselves with the environment. Orientation and arrival pick-up service on the designated date(s) close to the start of the semester will be arranged for exchange students. Details will be provided with your admission letter.

When should I purchase my ticket to Hong Kong?

After your visa application is successful.

Do I need to apply for the Student Buddy Programme?

No. Every exchange student will be matched with at least one EdUHK student buddy before arrival.

How much money do I need to bring to Hong Kong?

When do I need to register for courses?

Students can register online prior to their arrival in Hong Kong. The exact date will be shown on your admission letter.

Can I make changes after course registration?

Yes, you can change your course selection during the add/drop period after arrival.

What can I do if a course I wish to take is full?

You can make changes to the course selections during the add/drop period. While seats of all courses are available on a first-come-first-served basis, please note that all exchange students would need to fulfill the minimum credit requirement, which is 12. Therefore, it is important for you to have as many alternative courses as possible to ensure that you could meet the credit requirement.

Can I enrol in a course that has a prerequisite?

Yes, but you may be required to provide proof (such as a transcript, course syllabus, etc) of an equivalent prerequisite to the course instructor, with enrolment subject to the instructor’s approval.

I do not need to transfer the credits back to my home institution. Do I still need to fulfill the minimum credit requirement?

Yes, in order to maintain your full-time student status, you MUST take at least 12 credits. Otherwise, your exchange study at EdUHK could be terminated.

Do I need to apply for the on-campus accommodation? If yes, when?

Yes. The Global Affairs Office will inform successful applicants about on-campus accommodation application procedures.

When can I check in to my EdUHK student hostel?

You can check in prior to the start of the semester. The exact dates will be given to students in due course.

Can I check in to my hostel earlier than the early check-in period?

Check-in prior to the designated period is not allowed.

How much is the hostel fee and when do need to pay?

As of 2022/23, the hostel fee is approximately HK$3,810 - 7,720 (US$500-990)/ semester, plus a Hall Life Education fee of approximately HK$220 (US$28) (one-off payment). The payment instructions will be sent to you before you check in.

Do I need to bring my own bedding?

Yes. Bed sheets, blankets and pillows are not provided by EdUHK student hostels. Alternatively, you can purchase these items in Hong Kong after you arrive.

Are there any other fees that I need to pay, i.e. meal plan, utilities charges, etc?

Meal plans are not provided at EdUHK hostels, but there are catering outlets on campus. Air conditioning and utilities are charged by use. If you live in Northcote Hall, Grantham Hall or Robert Black Hall, you will need to pay for the air conditioning for your bedroom and laundry charges. Students staying in The Jockey Club Student Quarters share their flat’s utility charges.

Can I make requirement of whom I would like to live with, i.e. exchange students, local students, etc?

Yes, you may list the requirement in the online application form. Final arrangements will be subject to the decisions of the Student Affairs Office.

Can I live off campus?

All exchange students are strongly advised to live on campus.

Do I need to apply for a study visa?

Yes. In accordance with the Immigration Ordinance ,Cap. 115, Laws of Hong Kong, all international students are required to apply for a student visa prior to arrival. It is mandatory that all exchange students apply through the EdUHK Global Affairs Office. The visa application form and application guidelines can be downloaded here.

How long will my application take?

Student visa processing time is normally six to eight weeks.

How much do I need to pay?

You are required to pay a total of HK$530, including visa application fee of HK$230 (US$29) and administration fee of HK$300 (US$38). The payment is non-refundable.

When will I receive my visa permit? What should I do afterwards?

If your application is successful, an e-visa will be sent to you by email.

For international exchange students, you should ensure that you have received the e-visa label before departing for Hong Kong. When you arrive Hong Kong, an immigration officer will activate your student visa accordingly.

Should you fail to complete the above, you will only be regarded as a visitor in Hong Kong. This means that you won’t be able to undertake registration or start your studies at EdUHK until your student visa is activated.

When do I need to apply?

For Semester 1: early March – late April

For Semester 2: early September – mid-October

What do I need to submit?

A COMPLETED student exchange online application form, academic transcript and visa application form, etc. More details can be found here.

For the English language proficiency requirements, will you accept test results other than IELTS/TOEFL?

A letter issued by your home institution’s international office/study abroad office certifying your English proficiency will also be accepted.

How many courses do I need to take/can I take at EdUHK?

A minimum of 12 credits (four courses) up to a maximum of 15 credits (five courses).

When do I need to pay for my visa application, administration and courier fees?

Students will be advised of the payment procedures and deadlines once they are admitted to the exchange programme.

When will I know if my application is successful?

An admission letter will be sent to successful applicants in May for exchange in Fall Semester and end of October/early November for exchange in Spring Semester.

When do I need to provide proof of my travel and health insurance?

Health insurance should be submitted before your departure. Further information and requirement will be provided in the email.

Student Exchange Programmes (Outbound)

What is GAO's Global Summer Programmes?

To encourage students to enrich their non-local learning experience, the Global Affairs Office (GAO) offers a list of Global Summer Programmes (GSP) during the Summer break for students’ participation. The themes of GSP vary and the durations are ranged from 1 to 4 weeks. Students may choose any of these programmes according to their interests/ needs. Please refer here for the programme details.

What are the eligibility criteria for joining GSP?

Full-time sub-degree, undergraduate, and postgraduate students at EdUHK who are currently studying either a government-funded or self-funded programme are welcomed. Further details on eligibility can be found here. Some programmes may be restricted to a specific educational background/ level, please refer to the programme list for details.

Can I apply for more than one programme at the same time?

Students can only participate in one GSP during the summer break. Priority will be given to those who had not participated in GSP before.

Do I need to pay for joining GSP?

Most of the programmes are fee-paying, and students need to pay the tuition/programme fee directly to the host institution. If the programme fee is exempted, it will be stated on the programme list. Besides, participants are responsible for the visa fee, accommodation, airfares, and other daily expenses, etc.. The actual expenses vary depending on destination and spending habits.

Is there any financial support provided for GSP?

The University offers various kinds of financial assistance [e.g. Global Learning Enhancement Fund (GLEF)] for eligible GSP participants. Please refer to here for details of other financial aid and scholarships, if applicable.

When will GSP open for application?

GSP will be opened for application from February to April every year. Please stay tuned with us for the latest updates. 

Application must be submitted through the online system – Global Engagement Management System (GEMS). You can access GEMS via Portal and the student manual is available here. Please read through the manual and Application Guidelines carefully before submitting application.

What are the selection criteria for GSP?

Students who meet all the application requirements (please refer to the programme list for details) will be allocated for their choices according to their preference. If the number of applications exceeds the places available, lots will be drawn for random allocation by application priority and students’ order of preference.

What is the consequence of withdrawing the programme/ incompletion of programme after the offer is confirmed?

Students who withdraw from the programme/ fail to complete the programme without valid justifications, all subsidies will be cancelled and they shall take full responsibility of all unrecoverable programme costs incurred, such as fees on accommodation and transportation, programme fee, other administration fees, etc. 

Their future application on similar programmes will be given a lower priority, or will not be processed. 

When can I apply for SEP?

Students normally submit their applications to GAO about a year ahead of their preferred exchange period. Application will be launched from November to January for around 2-3 months. Please watch out for the latest updates from our office.

What are the exchange institutions I can choose? Or will I be assigned to one of the partner institutions?

Students can choose among our 130+ partner institution in Asia, Europe, Greater China region, North America and Oceania. You can select a maximum of five preferred exchange institutions on your application form. After careful assessment, successful applicants will receive an exchange offer in accordance with their performance and preferences. You are free to accept or reject the offer.

Interested students are expected to read through the Summary Table and be aware of specific requirements set by individual exchange institutions.

What are the language proficiency requirements for applying SEP? Can I submit the language test result after the application deadline?

Some exchange institutions may set specific requirements on language proficiency (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, JLPT, TOPIK, etc.). Please refer to our partner exchange institutions’ individual factsheets for the details of the language requirements.

When you submit your application, you must provide sufficient proof that you can meet the entry requirements of your preferred exchange institution(s). Your application will not be considered If you fail to submit valid information. Please pay attention to the validity of the language test result (e.g. IELTS score is only valid for 2 years after the test day).

How can I submit SEP application?

Application must be submitted through the online system – Global Engagement Management System (GEMS). You can access GEMS via Portal and the student manual is available here. Please read through the manual and Application Guidelines carefully before submitting application.

How do you assess the SEP applicants?

GAO will review all applications in accordance with the application requirements, students’ academic performance, language proficiency, and other related aspects, as appropriated.

If I withdraw from SEP after accepting the offer, can I re-apply in the future?

Yes, but your future application will be given a lower priority if you withdrew without a justifiable reason. Meanwhile, all the subsidies and/ or scholarships will be forfeited immediately.

What is the Student Exchange Programmes?

Student Exchange Programmes (SEP) is EdUHK’s well-established exchange initiative, which enables our undergraduate students to study at one of our partner institutions worldwide for one semester (Semester I/ II), and vice versa.

Why should I join SEP?

Participating in SEP will be an eye-opening learning experience! It can bring about a positive impact on your personal development: broadening your horizons, boosting self-confidence, enhancing language proficiency and increasing competitiveness.

What are the eligibility criteria for the application for SEP?

Full-time undergraduate students at EdUHK who are currently studying either a government-funded or self-funded programme. Further details on eligibility can be found here.

Am I free to choose the exchange semester?

Students can go on exchange for one semester (Semester I/ II) and you are strongly advised to exchange in Window Semester(s) specified by respective Programme Office. Please refer to the information “Window Semester for Student Exchange” in Download Area. If students would like to exchange in non-Window Semester(s), advice should be sought from Programme Office.

Do I need to pay for the tuition fee when I go on exchange? Apart from that, are there any other expenses?

Under the exchange agreement, tuition fee is paid to one's home institution, and that for the host institution is waived. That means you need to pay the tuition fee to EdUHK during your exchange semester but not to your host institution.

Besides, participants are responsible for the visa fee, accommodation, airfares, and other daily expenses, etc.. The actual expenses vary depending on study destination and spending habits. Please refer to Budget and Finance for more information.

Does EdUHK provide any financial support for joining SEP?

The University offers various kinds of financial support (e.g. Global Learning Enhancement Fund (GLEF), scholarships and bursaries) for eligible outbound exchange students. Please refer here for details.

GAO will also conduct pre-departure briefings for successful applicants for SEP preparation.

Will I receive a transcript from the host institution after the completion of SEP?

Yes, you will receive a transcript from the host institution showing all the courses you have taken. However, you will need to confirm with your host institution on transcript arrangement.

Can I transfer the credits gained through the student exchange programmes back to the EdUHK?

Students can follow the University’s policy on Block Credit Transfer for Outbound Exchange Programmes for making credit transfer. For details, please refer to the Registry website. Block Credit Transfer is subject to the Registry’s approval.

What is GAO's Short-term Study Visits (SSV) in the Greater China Region?

To encourage students to enrich their non-local learning experience, the Global Affairs Office (GAO) offers a series of Short-term Programmes during semester breaks (i.e. Christmas, Easter and Summer breaks) for students’ participation. The themes of the Short-term Programmes vary and the durations are ranged from 1 to 4 weeks. Students may choose any of these programmes according to their interests/ needs. What are the eligibility criteria for joining SSV?

All full-time EdUHK students (including all levels and funding modes) are welcomed. Due to the requirement of partner universities, unless otherwise stated, all participants are expected to have basic proficiency in Chinese language and can converse in Putonghua.

How many SSVs a student can participate during each semester break?

Students can only participate in one SSV during each semester break. Priority will be given to those who had not participated in SSV before.

How much is the programme cost? Does EdUHK provide any financial support for joining SSV?

Most of the SSV are sponsored by the Ministry of Education, China. Unless, otherwise indicated, students usually will only need to pay for the round-trip transportation fees, daily & personal expenses, as appropriate. Eligible participants may apply for the University’s Global Learning Enhancement Fund, students are required to provide official receipts and related proof for the refund application upon returning to HK.

When will SSV open for application?

Usually, SSV will be opened for application around 1-2 months before the programmes start. Please stay tuned with us for the latest updates.

What are the selection criteria for SSV?

Students who meet all the application requirements will be allocated for their choices according to their preference. If the number of applications exceeds the places available, lots will be drawn for random allocation by application priority and students’ order of preference.

What is the consequence of withdrawing the programme/ incompletion of programme after the offer is confirmed?

Students who withdraw from the programme/ fail to complete the programme without valid justifications, all subsidies will be cancelled and they shall take full responsibility of all unrecoverable programme costs incurred, such as fees on accommodation, transportation, other administration fees, etc. Their future application on similar programmes will be given a lower priority, or will not be processed.
