Led by Dr Yan Jing, and on behalf of the Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE), a team comprising staff member Mr Chau Lap and two students paid a significant visit to the Chinese Studies programme team under the School of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics at Monash University, Australia, on 24 October 2024. This inspiring visit aimed to promote collaboration between the two institutes while enhancing the global influence of EdUHK.
The visit was conducted under the Faculty Development Fund, as part of a collaborative research project between CRCLE and Monash University, titled ‘Investigating how Second Life can support the development of intercultural sensitivity among Chinese native speakers and Chinese language learners’, with Dr Yan serving as the Principal Investigator. Through this project, EdUHK students and Chinese language learners from Monash University engaged in intercultural communication in the virtual world of Second Life. This project has contributed to the enhancement of intercultural sensitivity among students from both institutes, generating significant interactional impact.
Throughout the visit, the team explored the campus of Monash University and engaged in fruitful discussions with its faculty members. These exchanges delved into research interests of academic staff, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, academic exchange opportunities, and potential areas for future collaborations. Additionally, both universities deliberated on significant issues related to international Chinese language education. These discussions laid a strong foundation for future collaborative initiatives.
