The Centre for Research in Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS) and the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML) has been organising the Research Postgraduate Programme (RPg) Student Research Forum since 2017. The forum held on 27 October 2021 gathered more than 39 colleagues and postgraduate students.
Each year, new incoming RPg students affiliated to the Centre are invited to attend the forum as part of their welcoming. Second year RPg students attending the forum will give a presentation on their research topic. Their supervisors are invited to attend the forum as a supporting figure. The forum serves as a platform for them to present their ongoing research in public, which is an important step in their academic pursuit. Feedback collected in the forum also helps them advance their thesis research, regardless of their stage of progression in their study.
In 2021, we warmly welcomed three new incoming RPg students who are all affiliated to LML and CRLLS. They are Miss Ji Yaxuan, Miss Tian Jingxuan and Mr Yan Jiahao. Their respective supervisors are Dr Andy Chin (LML), Dr Rebecca Chen (LML, CLE) and Dr Ma Qing (LML).
Three short presentations were given by our second year RPg students. Ms Liu Ping (LML) is supervised by Professor Jackie Lee (LML). Ms Tang Khanh Hoa and Mr Wang Hao are affiliated to the Department of English Language Education (ELE) and supervised by Dr Michelle Gu (ELE) and Professor John Trent (ELE) respectively. Ms Liu’s research examines the topic of value orientation of China’s high school English textbooks from the perspective of international understanding. The visual and verbal texts in teaching units and workbooks will be thoroughly investigated (audios--audio texts; videos--video texts and frames). Ms Tang discusses the implementation of EMI at higher education in Vietnam. The practices and impacts on EMI students’ trajectories are examined. Mr Wang’s topic is about the positioning of private school teachers in mainland China.

香港教育大学(教大)第二届粤港澳大湾区「尊师重道」生命教育征文比赛圆满结束,并于2021年8月20日进行网上颁奖礼和分享会,吸引150多个学校和家庭参与。是次比赛有8,029篇来稿,来自香港、澳门、深圳和珠海等地共363间小学。

Saturday Seminar Series (Cohorts 1 and 2)
In the fall of 2021, the Department of English Language Education arranged 10 Saturday Seminars conducted in the hybrid mode with over 500 in-service teachers in attendance. The first five offered practical ideas and strategies for “English Language Teaching in the Digital Era”. The aim was to support practising English language teachers’ professional development by introducing current and emerging digital pedagogical practices. The second series of seminars focused on enhancing student learning through assignments involving a wide range of literary and creative genres. It was designed to help practising teachers strengthen their instructional skills and knowledge in the English Language Education Key Learning Area.
