Language Fest 2018 a Success!

The First Language Fest of The Education University of Hong Kong was held on 18 September 2018 by the Centre for Language in Education (CLE). As a journey of self-discovery and connecting everyone through languages, CLE offered an occasion for students to meet others through languages. It was a fun event that consisted of the presentations of seven languages of the world, namely Finnish, Portuguese, Turkish, Hebrew, Mongolian, Swedish, Spanish, led by the International Tutors (ITs) from different countries, aiming at showing students the diversity of linguistic and ethnographic features of those languages. The idea was to let students understand that languages and cultures were different but equally important and interesting no matter where the language was spoken.

Although the University had been wrecked by the typhoon a few days before, it did not reduce students’ enthusiasm to come and achieve their dream of travelling the world in the Fest. When they entered the Arthur Samy Language Learning Centre (ASLLC), they started their learning adventures by visiting the booth for each country one by one to learn different languages. The atmosphere on that day was really contagious and active, as evidenced by student participants’ feedback like “it really gave us a good chance to practise foreign languages, as well as gain confidence and encouragement for our foreign language study” and “they taught me different kinds of languages and how to read and say some fun phrases in their native languages. I think reading makes us rich in soul. I look forward to joining more activities at ASLLC”.
