Master of Arts in Intercultural Communication and Translation [MAICT]
Admission
We welcome applications from local and non-local applicants. If you are required to obtain a student visa / entry permit issued by the Director of Immigration in order to study in Hong Kong, you are regarded as a non-local applicant. Residence status is not a criterion for selection.
Kindly note that applications will be processed on a rolling basis. Places are filled continually throughout the admission period, and there is a possibility that the quotas may be full before the deadline. Early application is therefore strongly encouraged. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend admission interviews.
Entrance Requirements
Applicants who meet the University’s general requirements for postgraduate programmes are eligible to apply for the MAICT. Details can be found at http://www.eduhk.hk/acadprog/EnReq(Pg). Additionally, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- hold a recognised Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Journalism and Communication, Cultural Studies, Education, or related disciplines;
- be able to provide evidence of competence in English, such as possessing one or more of the following qualifications
- a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (Internet-based); or
- an overall score of 6.5 or above (with no subtest score lower than 6.0) in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (academic version); or
- other equivalent qualifications.
Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.
The results of IELTS/TOEFL provided should be within two years (i.e., for the 2025/26 intake, the IELTS/TOEFL test must be obtained on or after 1 Jan 2023); and
The results of IELTS/TOEFL should be “taken in test centres” (i.e., tests taken online such as IELTS indicator/IELTS Online and TOEFL Home Editions are NOT accepted).
Notes to Non-local Applicants
- Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-English speaking system should include their IELTS / TOEFL test result (taken within 2 years) in the application documents. Otherwise, the application may be delayed.
- It normally takes 6-8 weeks for the Hong Kong Immigration Department to process visa applications. You are therefore strongly advised to submit your application as early as possible.
- Your application can be completed online without going through any education agencies. Please submit your application online at http://www.eduhk.hk/acadprog/online/.

Applicants are advised to login their online application account (http://www.eduhk.hk/acadprog/online) to view their application results. Successful applicants will receive individual notifications by email / post. Those who do not receive an admission offer in the main round may be put into our waiting list or their applications are being processed in the subsequent round(s).

Otherwise, you may commit serious criminal offences under Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (Cap. 201 of the laws of Hong Kong), which is punishable by imprisonment.
Making, submitting or using any false instrument (including forged documents) are serious criminal offences under the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200 of the laws of Hong Kong). A person committing the offences relating to forgery or false instruments is liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment. The University shall consider the relevant evidence and report suspicious cases to the Hong Kong Police. The University reserves the right to take appropriate legal actions against persons who make, forge or use a false instrument for admission and any other academic purposes before, during and after the admission process.
