The Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML) and the Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS) successfully organised the International Conference on TeLLT & CoLLT 2024 from 3 to 5 July 2024. This event brought together academics from around the world to report on their research related to technology-enhanced language learning and teaching (TeLLT) and corpus-based language learning and teaching (CoLLT). As TeLLT and CoLLT are gaining momentum in this digitised world, LML and CRLLS promoted Hong Kong as a hub for academic exchanges and collaborations in the area of technology-enhanced language learning and teaching and corpus-based language learning and teaching.
The conference attracted more than 160 presenters and around 200 participants from different parts of the world including China (Mainland), France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Russia Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, New Zealand, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA reporting their studies on technology-enhanced and corpus-based language learning and teaching in English, Putonghua, and Cantonese.
The presentations cover a wide range of topics, such as the role of artificial intelligence in language teaching, cognitive processes in AI-assisted composing and traditional writing, the humanisation of technology in language learning, opportunities and challenges of pedagogical AI agents, and innovations at the intersection of corpus linguistics and language education. The conference was a great success: during the six plenary sessions, 18 parallel sessions, and seven themed symposiums, the participants engaged in very insightful discussions on various TeLLT and CoLLT issues. All attendees greatly appreciated the high quality of the academic exchange.
