This year’s annual conference of the ‘Chinese Language Learning and Teaching Collaboration Network’ (referred to as the ‘Collaboration Network’) was held outside Hong Kong for the first time, marking a significant step towards further cooperative relationships among schools in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The conference, held at Shenzhen Heping School (深圳市和平中學) from 13 to 14 December, was organised by the Faculty of Humanities and the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) at EdUHK, co-organised by the Shenzhen Educational Science Institute (深圳市教育科學研究院), and assisted by the Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education, the School Partnership and Field Experience Office at EdUHK, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Chinese Language Education. The event attracted over 120 educators from Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, creating a dynamic atmosphere in the fully occupied venue.
The conference featured the themes of ‘The Application of AI in Chinese Language Education’ and ‘Chinese Language Education and Moral Development’, addressing the most cutting-edge issues in the field today. The conference also featured four workshops, focusing on pertinent topics such as AI applications in Hong Kong schools, language instruction in schools for Hong Kong children in mainland China, teaching of classical poetry and moral development in secondary schools, and emotional teaching in the language curriculum in Shenzhen. These workshops provided valuable insights and practical examples for attendees.
The annual conference and workshop provided a platform for both old and new colleagues and friends to engage in forward-looking discussions, collaboratively shaping new initiatives in Chinese language education and yielding fruitful outcomes. The Collaboration Network will continue to uphold its mission and further promote the exchange and development of Chinese language education within the GBA.
