Mr Michael Chan Pak-yin, Year 1 Student from the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) in 2023/24
My first year at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) was a unique experience and I tried plenty of new activities. First, I participated in two orientation camps: the Photography Society’s and the English Society’s orientation camps. The highlight of the former was definitely a bonfire party, which went with a swing. For the latter, I benefited from it as I met many new friends, who have become good companions of my first-year campus life. Orientation camps are a great way to make new friends and broaden your social circle!
The class that I found the most interesting in my first year was ‘PFS2050 Basic Psychology for Educators: Useful Concepts from Educational and Positive Psychology’. Our tutor, Mr Andy Cho Hoi-on, interacted with the class when explaining concepts to us, and taught us how to maintain classroom discipline in a vivid way.
For my daily campus life, I frequently booked sports venues and played sports with my friends in between or after lessons for free. The University also offers a host of opportunities to visit mainland China. In April, my friends and I joined a two-day Huizhou Entrepreneurship and Cultural Tour. It was a fantastic learning opportunity that allowed me to gain insights into how the mainland and Hong Kong are collaborating to support youth innovation and entrepreneurship. I learned that my future development is not limited to becoming a teacher in Hong Kong. I can also embrace the development opportunities in mainland China.
To conclude, my first year at EdUHK was memorable, and I cannot wait to join more activities, such as hall activities and exchange programmes, to challenge myself in the upcoming years.

One group focusing on visual art visited Tsinghua University, Beijing; the other music-focused group visited the Sichuan Conservatory of Music and two more prestigious universities in Chengdu.
