Simply having professional credentials or a degree is no longer enough for the technology-based knowledge economy nowadays. The Faculty of Humanities of The Education University of Hong Kong aims to develop our graduates with high ethical and moral standards, strong communications skills, a propensity to embrace diversity, and a commitment to serve. These soft skills will not only strengthen their confidence to tackle the challenges ahead, but also inspire them to become role models for their peers and students. The multi-disciplinary education offered by the University allows the graduates to be leaders in careers in various fields, such as education, business, community and social services, culture and entertainment, media and publishing, and digital communication.

Programmes for the Digital Age
The programmes offered by the Faculty aim to instil in graduates a greater understanding of human nature and inspire students to analyse, synthesise and critically evaluate information from a wide range of disciplines in the humanities to meet future challenges.
Apart from education programmes, a new programme Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Studies and Digital Communication will be launched. This programme is a combination of humanities and digital communication technology, which will allow students to further contribute to the transformation of education, media, and publishing in the Digital Age.
The programme Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (Chinese Major/English Major) aims to cultivate a new generation of English-Chinese bilingual language professionals. In addition to focusing on the language that they major in, students are required to complete courses about the other language such that they have balanced development in both languages.
Mandatory Internships Offering Real-World Experience
Experiential learning is of crucial contribution to students’ whole-person development. The Faculty encourages students to step out from their comfort zones by offering practical hands-on learning experiences through different activities, such as the Field Experience, the Language Immersion Programme, the Internship Programme, the International Summer Programme, the Exchange Programme, and Leadership & Service Learning.
The Field Experience is mandatory for all students in all Bachelor of Education programmes, including Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) (Co-terminal Double Degree), Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese Language), Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) - Primary, Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese History) and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (History).
Students in these programmes will be able to observe classes and practise teaching in local primary or secondary schools according to the requirements of the respective programmes.
Students of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese Language), Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) - Primary and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (English Language) (Co-terminal Double Degree) must attend a compulsory Language Immersion Programme in mainland China or in an English-speaking country where they can enhance their overall proficiency in Mandarin or English while experiencing a different culture.
Some graduates who participated in these programmes said that they benefited much from the culturally enriching experience of living with host families. They said that the experiences of studying and living abroad had prepared them to work in a multi-cultural teaching environment upon graduation.
Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language are also required to attend international school visits in Hong Kong and complete a four-week Field Experience in international colleges of non-local universities. It aims to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of teaching Chinese as a second language through a range of structured activities in varied school settings.
The Internship Programme is one of the experiential learning activities for students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Studies and Digital Communication (new programme) and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (Chinese Major/English Major). It aims to enable students to integrate and apply the relevant knowledge and skills to help them plan their career.
The University provides various exchange opportunities for students in countries around the world.
Through the “learning through doing” multi-pronged approach, the highly immersive and engaging programmes of the Faculty groom enlightened and all-rounded future talents committed to positively shaping future generations.
