On 26 August 2015, the Faculty of Humanities (FHM) held programme orientations to welcome new students from 3 Master programmes (Master of Arts in Chinese Studies (Language Education) (MACSLE), Master of Arts in Teaching Chinese as an International Language (MATCIL), and Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL)). Topics related to campus services, sharing by teaching team members and alumni, as well as programme information were covered during the orientations, which were attended by over 120 new students. In the 2015/16 academic year, we have new students coming from Mainland China, Malaysia, United States, Canada, Myanmar and Hong Kong.
One highlight of the MATESOL programme orientation was the MATESOL scholarship presentation ceremony. Supported by the Department of English Language Education (ELE), the MATESOL scholarship was set up on a trial basis in 2014/15 to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of the top-performing MATESOL graduate. Thanks to his excellent academic performance, Mr. Gabriel Boa was granted the 2014/15 MATESOL scholarship. Upon being awarded a certificate from Prof. Eric Yu, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) of FHM, Mr. Boa shared his study experience and offered many useful tips to the new students admitted in 2015/16.
