Event Description:

This event aims to test students’ bilingual proficiency in Mandarin and English. They must select a story from the 4 stories and read both the English and Chinese script. They should have an accurate pronunciation and the proper tone that reflect their emotions.

This event is designed to showcase students' proficiency in both Mandarin and English languages. Participants will have the opportunity to select one of four stories and demonstrate their bilingual skills by reading aloud both the English and Chinese scripts.

In addition to accuracy in pronunciation, participants will be judged on their ability to convey the proper tone and emotions of the story. Whether it's the excitement of a race between the Tortoise and the Hare, or the moral lessons of honesty and hard work found in The Little Red Hen, participants must bring these tales to life in both languages.

Through this competition, we aim to celebrate the richness of language and culture while also providing a platform for students to develop and showcase their bilingual proficiency.

Story 1: The Tortoise and the Hare /

English:

Once upon a time, there was a tortoise and a hare who lived together. They were good friends but always argued because they both wanted to prove they were faster.

One day, the hare teased the tortoise, saying, "You're so slow, you could never win a race."

The tortoise patiently replied, "Let's have a race then."

The race began, with the hare sprinting ahead and the tortoise moving slowly but steadily. The hare thought he would easily win, so he stopped to take a rest. However, when he woke up, he found the tortoise had already reached the finish line.

This story teaches us not to underestimate others, as slow and steady steps can also lead to success.

Story 2: The Boy Who Cried Wolf /

English:

Once upon a time, there was a boy who was responsible for herding sheep. He was very bored, so he often cried wolf, claiming there was a wolf coming. Each time the villagers heard his cries, they would come to help, only to find it was a prank.

But one day, a real wolf did come, and the boy, because of his previous lies, had lost all credibility. No one believed him. In the end, his sheep were eaten by the wolf.

This story teaches us that lying can lead to a loss of trust, and it's important to be honest and reliable.

Story 3: The Little Red Hen /

English:

Once upon a time, a little red hen found a grain of wheat. She asked the cow, the cat, and the dog, "Who will help me plant this grain of wheat?" They all said they were too busy and didn't want to help.

The little red hen decided to plant, water, and harvest it herself. In the end, she made a delicious loaf of bread. When she invited the cow, the cat, and the dog to share it with her, they were all jealous.

This story teaches us that hard work and diligence lead to success.

Story 4: The Lion and the Mouse /

English:

Once upon a time, a lion was saved by a mouse. Later, the mouse was caught by a hunter. The lion heard the mouse's cries and ran to save it.

The lion and the mouse became friends and helped each other. One day, the lion was trapped in a net, and the mouse heard its cries for help. The mouse rushed to rescue the lion.

This story teaches us that even small creatures can do great things, and helping each other is very important.
