Dr Lee Wing Tat

Dr. LEE Wing Tat is currently a Lecturer I in the Centre for Language in Education. He received his Ph.D. in Classical Chinese Literature from the Tsinghua University, Beijing. Before that, he had graduated with a M.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from The University of Hong Kong, and a B.Ed. (Chinese) from The Hong Kong Institution of Education (HKIEd) respectively.

Dr. LEE has extensive teaching experiences of Chinese Language and Putonghua in both secondary and tertiary education level. At his early stage of teaching career, he had worked as a Chinese and Putonghua teacher in local secondary schools. Before joining the EDUHK, He has taught in the Chinese Language Centre as an Instructor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for years.

His teaching specialization includes Chinese Language education (both Chinese Writing and Speaking), Putonghua Education, Workplace Chinese, Teaching Chinese and Cantonese as a Foreign or Second Language (L2 Chinese &Cantonese), Classical Chinese (Wenyan) Teaching(文言文教學) and Chinese Cultural Education. Recently, He have launched a Teaching Development Grant (TDG) funded project on developing an Online Cantonese Self-learning Platform for Non-Chinese Speakers, aim at promoting Cantonese learning to second language learners and enhancing their learning effectiveness outside the classroom.

Apart from his commitment to teaching, Dr. LEE’s main research interests lie in the area of traditional Chinese thought and classical Chinese literary studies of medieval period (from the Western Han to Pre-Tang period), with focus on the interpretation of concepts in the Confucianism and early Taoism and exploring the evolution and relationship of thought among different school of knowledges through textual and historical approaches.
Research Interests:
• Chinese Philosophy and Religion (focus on Heaven-Humanity relationship and Life Philosophy)
• Confucianism, Taoist and Taoism Studies (Concept of Early Taoism, Confucian-Taoism relationship, etc.)
• Classical Chinese Literature (Han and Wei-Jin Dynasties)
• Study of Zi Books (子書研究)
He has published more than a dozen of articles in scholarly journals across the field of Chinese cultural Studies and language education, and have been invited as external reviewer of published paper for academic conference.

Dr. LEE has played an active role in providing services in public and professional sectors. He is a qualified National Assessor of Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSC) (國家級普通話水平測試員) and has been serving as an Oral Examiner in the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (Putonghua)(教師語文能力評核(普通話科)) for years. He was also appointed by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong as a Member of “Test Construction Committee for Hong Kong Attainment test of the Pre-Secondary One”, providing professional advices in the construction of test paper.

Additionally, Dr. LEE is enthusiastic to promoting knowledge transfer among the academic circle and the community. He has been invited as guest speaker by the Hong Kong Taoist College (青松觀香港道教學院), teaching serial lectures on the theme of Chinese tradition culture and Taoism thought to the public. He has also actively participated as guest or judge in various debates and speeches campaign held in local primary and secondary schools, aiming to promote Chinese language learning in schools and the community.

Dr Ma Sai Ho is currently a lecturer II at the Centre for Language in Education, the Education University of Hong Kong. He received his BA, MPhil and PhD in Chinese from the Lingnan University and obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests include Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Hong Kong Literature and Chinese Culture. He has published several academic papers or chapters in different journals and books. Now he is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Literary Criticism Society and the examiner of Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

She has been actively participating in projects related to technologies in education, including the co-creation of a localized English learning mobile app "Everyday English in Hong Kong" with LTTC, the research on using the ASR function in AI for language learning and using AI for formative assessments, etc. Her research interests include technology-mediated language learning, assessment for learning, and intercultural language learning.

Carlos is an English lecturer at the Centre for Language in Education. Prior to joining EdUHK, he gained extensive teaching experience in primary and secondary schools across various bandings in Hong Kong. He is skilled at using AI-based teaching and learning tools to provide learners with formative feedback, fostering their continuous improvement in language acquisition. He is also proficient in applying gamification and task-based learning approaches to enhance students’ motivation in learning English. His steadfast commitment to education is evidenced by his contributions across Cambodia, China, Ireland, North Macedonia, and the United Kingdom, where he has served as a curriculum designer, advisor to various schools, and adjudicator in English choral speaking competitions.

In addition to teaching, Carlos has a keen research interest in areas such as Assessment for Learning, Content and Language Integrated Learning, Feedback Literacy, and Global Englishes Language Teaching. His research on uncovering Hong Kong teachers’ beliefs about introducing Global Englishes Language Teaching innovations earned him a distinction for his master’s thesis from the University of Cambridge. Carlos is also a recipient of several prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship, and the Hong Kong Top-10 Outstanding Tertiary Student Award.

He also holds an MRes from Lancaster University and a CertThai from Chulalongkorn University.
