2024-25 Bilingual Vlog Contest-My University life at EdUHK

Contest Description

University life is an irreplaceable part of life, and documenting these moments will become a great memory for us. In your vlog, you can focus on a particular part of your life that you want to show, or you can show the whole picture of university life.

This activity is a bilingual vlog contest which requires participants to show their bilingual abilities. The contest is targeted at all students of the university. Students will participate as individuals. Each participant has to produce a 5-8 minute video on the following topic which can be narrowed down and focused to a specific theme relevant to it:

Submission Requirements

1. Your vlog must be in two languages (Mandarin and English). The length of the vlog must be approximately equally divided between the two languages. You must alternate the use of the two languages in the vlog (do not translate from one language to another).

2. You are required to appear on camera in your vlog, and ensure that your voice is authentic.

3.Your full name, student number and title of the vlog should be introduced with a full screen title page at the beginning of each video. Your vlog has to be posted on YouTube accessible through your private Google accounts or university Google (s.eduhk.hk) accounts, using the unlisted function.

4. To set your videos as unlisted, please click the “Your videos” button and you will be able to find the unlisted option under visibility.

5. Participants have to submit the vlog by sharing the Youtube link HERE.

6. All participants have to finish the evaluation after the submission.

7. Participants who do not follow the above rules and the requirements needed for the submission will be disqualified.

Adjudication

A panel of judges will assess your works in the following areas:

Vocabulary (20%)

Are the word choices correct and appropriate?

Grammar (20%)

Do grammatical mistakes lead to understanding problems?
Do the same grammatical mistakes happen consistently?

Pronunciation (20%)

Do the same pronunciation errors happen consistently?
Do these pronunciation errors make it difficult to understand?

Fluency (20%)

Do you talk smoothly and confidently?
Is the speech read from a script?

Language application (10%)

How well is the use of language?

Content originality, creativity and relevance (10%)

Is the content original, creative and relevant to the topic?

The decision of the judges is final.

Timeline

Open for submission: 28 October 2024

Deadline for submission of the YouTube link: 30 December 2024

Adjudication: January 2025

Announcement of results: February 2025

Presentation of prizes: March 2025

Prizes

The champion will receive the grand prize of $600 coupon, the 1^st runner up $400 coupon and the 2^nd runner up $300 coupon. Each awardee will be given a certificate of award or certificate of participation.
