Sponsorship Programme
The literature on the socialisation of BPs – as well as practical
experience – tells us that the single most important element
in the development of new principals is an ongoing learning
relationship with more experienced principals (Crow, 2006).
In other words, during their first years, they learn more
about being an effective school leader from other
experienced principals than any other source.
A pivotal determinant of the success of blue skies is therefore
to facilitate experienced effective principals working in an
ongoing learning relationship with BPs.
In the blue skies programme, experienced principals will take
the role of what we have labelled a Sponsor.
Each Sponsor will be matched with a maximum of three BPs.
They will work in a Learning Square with their BP partners for
a structured period of approximately ten months; however, it
is hoped that the relationship will extend well beyond the
formal Sponsoring period.
The blue skies sponsorship programme aims to provide
essential support to BPs engaged in educational
improvement.
