Supply Teachers
Guidelines for the appointment of supply teachers are contained in
the Guidelines and Forms related to Codes of Aid for Aided
Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.
Employment Agreements
The terms of an employment agreement with a teacher in an aided
school are likely to extend beyond what is reduced into writing and
signed by the parties. This is best illustrated by looking back at
what the sources of law. The agreement will consist of:
Express terms – These are terms that are agreed by the employer
and employee, usually in writing but sometimes also orally.
Implied Terms – Terms that the law and industry custom and
practice incorporate into an agreement are implied terms. For
teachers, common terms that are implied are the duty of care and
the duty of good faith.
