Employment Matters






                             In schools where the Codes of Aid do not apply, the terms of

                             employment are regulated by the general law relating to employment,
                                                                 7
                             including the Employment Ordinance .
                             The Employment Ordinance also applies to employment arrangements

                             in aided schools. In addition,  the Codes of Aid contain detailed
                             provisions  regulating  the  staff  establishment,  the  terms  of
                             employment, salary increments, and leave arrangements. The Codes
                             also regulate the manner in which teaching staff can be suspended or

                             terminated.
                             A teacher must be furnished with a contract of service and / or a letter
                             of appointment signed by the Supervisor and countersigned by the

                             teacher on appointment. Such contract of service or letter of
                             appointment shall not be subject to annual renewal, but subject to the
                             agreement  between  the  teacher  concerned  and  the  School
                             Management Committee, the contract may be renewed at regular

                             intervals.
