Can a teacher be directed to participate in the parent teacher
association?

There is no specific law on this, but a court is likely to hold that

participation is required as an implied term. An express term can be
inserted into the teacher’s employment contract requiring such
participation.

Statutory Terms – These are terms that are included into an

agreement because of what is contained in an ordinance. E.g.:
maternity leave provision is governed by the Employment Ordinance
and will be incorporated into an agreement even though there is no

express provision.

The Codes of Aid – Because the Codes contain terms regulating the
manner in which schools deal with staff, the employment agreement
has to be read subject to such terms.
