PRELIMINARY IDEAS

Think about a report you must write soon. Make a few notes below
each heading.
1. State the purpose and intention of the report:
To explain to the SLT the problems we have keeping good TAs
and to persuade them to help us do something about it.

1. What information is essential?
Data about TA turn‐over. Data from TAs about why they leave
and from teachers about how the turn‐over influences their
work.

1. What line of argument will you follow?
Performance in the classroom is suffering. Spending a lot of time
covering TAs’ jobs.

1. What are your thoughts at this stage about recommendations
or proposals?
Let department be more involved in identification / hiring.
Provide real‐life training for TAs BEFORE they begin
