Professional Learning Community

            Professional Learning Community

A professional learning community (PLC) is a method aiming to enhance the learning outcomes
of students. Professional collaboration inspires, motivates, and energises teachers. It supports
deep learning for both teachers and students. It promotes students’ equity, teacher

professionalism, coherence, and learning. It provides emotional support for teachers. In addition,
it helps teachers to understand why it is significant to make changes (Datnow and Park, 2019).

Apart from considering the contextual objectives (Pedagogy), it is also important to think about
capacity building (skills) (Fullan et al., 2017). We aspire colleagues to learn—

            Order of introducing PLC measures

Many schools perceive PLC as a system, that all elements and measures can be introduced and
implemented at one time. Instead, these measures should be introduced one-by-one to ensure
teachers can master each measure before moving on the next one. The following items are
            common measures of PLC:

             Measure Description

Browse and tell a story Exchange ideas, anecdotes and idle gossip

Assistance Offer help based on other's requests (e.g. lesson surrogate)

Share Share teaching resources and experience (e.g. lesson study)

Work as a group Plan, teach and study together (e.g. lesson observation)
