Understanding Your School – External Analysis
Power of Substitution
The Power of Substitution refers to the services of other industries that may also satisfy
the needs of parents and students. For example, tutorial schools, home-schooling and
YouTubers could potentially substitute some of the roles of traditional school in some aspects.
Issues to be considered
Can other schools substitute you school’s uniqueness?
Do you think idols, cram tutors or other organisations (e.g. HK HK representative team,
the Scout Association, etc.) have the potential to replace teacher professionalism?
Power of Collaborators
The Power of Collaborators refers to the products or services that a school may collaborate
with, to add value to complement schools’ service to satisfy students’ needs. The school
sponsoring parties, alumni and NGOs are examples of collaborators.
Issues to be considered
Is the school able to establish effective and productive collaborative partnerships?
Have the alumni enthusiastically contributed to the Amar school?
Has the school maintained a good stable relationship with other schools?
(e.g. Special education schools)
